Norton 360 Identity Safe File

Hello,

I upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista using a custom installation.  Win 7 backed up all of my data to a Windows.old folder.

I forgot to backup my Identity Safe before upgrading.  Are there steps I can take to recover my Identity Safe from that Windows.old folder?

Thanks.

Hello iandude,

Sorry to hear of the issue you are having.  Please try this procedure to recover your data.

  1. Be sure your Folder Options are set to "Show hidden files and folders".
  2. Search windows.old for IdentitySafeDataStore. Depending upon your previous operating system it may be located in Documents and Settings.
  3. Expand the folders IdentitySafeDataStore > S-1-5-21-.... and copy just the contents of the S-1-5-21 .... folder to a new folder in a convenient location. (Inside the folder you should see an IDDStore file and an IDDStore_bak file along with a number of favicons - copy all)

To restore the Identity Safe Data:

  1. Search for and locate the IdentitySafeDataStore on your new installation and make a note of it.
    In windows 7 x 64 the location is: C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-....}\N360_4...\IdentitySafeDataStore\S-1-5-21-....
  2. Restart your computer in Safe Mode.
  3. Navigate to the new IdentitySafeDataStore\S-1-5-21 .... folder.
  4. Delete any content in the S-1-5-21 .... folder.
  5. Paste the previously copied individual contents into the S-1-5-21 .... folder.
  6. Restart your computer in regular mode.

Check your identity Safe to see if it now displays your data. If so, I highly recommend Backing Up your Identity Safe Data right now.

Thanks to yank for pointing out the 360 address!

Thanks, Phil.  That did the trick.

Thanks, Phil.  That did the trick.

Just a couple notes:

1) Regardless of the previous verrsion of Windows, the IdentitySafeDataStore folder is located in the same place in Windows.old as it is in the new Windows 7 installation.

2) Since I had not yet created the Identity Safe profile, the IdentitySafeDataStore folder also had not been created.

3) Once I created the folder, I had to log out of Identity Safe before I could copy the IDDStore file into the folder.

4) The icons next to the logins are not showing up, although this is really isn't a problem for me.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the update on your findings.

Sometimes the favicons can be refreshed by going to Web Settings > Identity Safe > Manage Logins > Configure [+] and then clicking the URL for each login directly from within the Manage Logins window.
