I recently started playing Battlestar Galactica Online again and was noticing that I was having some issues with the unity player. The last few days i've noticed that Nortons is specifically blocking the following files:
Its not doing it every time, or even every file each time. But it has made it impossible to play the game the last couple of days. Is there a way to set Norton 360 to ignore these files?
As far as I can see there is no other Virus/Firewall programs in the add remove. It's a HP computer, so I'd guess it was bundled with Macaffee, but i didn't see it in the list.
And to clarify, the issues i've been having with the Unity Web Player have been intermittant without norton interfering, but starting yesterday, or was it the day before, I noticed that Norton started blocking Unity and it hasn't worked at all since. The BGO standard response was to uninstall the web player and reinstall, which i'd fiddle around with until it worked again. But now nothing is working because the Antivirus has identified Unity as a threat and is deleting the .dll files as the game loads up.
Conflict in security software can be the cause of various issues even if the security software has been uninstalled the debris left on the system needs to be removed with the removal tool for the specific security software.
Can you check on the web what security software came with the computer as you say you guess its Mcafee.
Download and run the Mcafee removal tool, then restart the computer. This should clear up any Mcafee debris that may be causing a conflict with the Norton product.
When entering the CAPTCHA code it is case sensitive. If you get an incomplete un-installation re running the tool again can show more lines of text and increase the more times the tool is run. Running the tool in safe mode has no effect after restarting the computer.
Running the tool in safe mode with networking (see help and support from the start menu) gives a complete un-installation. This was performed after shutting the computer down for some time.
McAfee removal tool link below, scroll to half way down the page.
Use the process below to remove your previous security programme. You’ll need to download and save the removal tool from the security software’s main website or use the singularlabs website on the link below and choose from the list.
This process should be performed for each security software to be uninstalled, meaning one at a time. If you have previously uninstalled then the removal tool needs to be run and the computer restarted.
Has Avast been on the computer?
If you have any questions please ask before you start?
As far as I can tell, there is no security software on this computer. When i bought it a few years ago, Nortons is what I bought and installed on it. Never had an issue until now.
I've not heard of Avast, and i don't see it on the computer.
Go to Page 3 where RoflHarris posted (Unitys?) response.
Hi everyone, I can only apologise for our oversight when we released the latest webplayer. We had changed the signature of the app and as such it was no longer part of the whitelist with certain AV programs. We are now working with norton to make sure that this does not happen again with a future release.
I would like to thank RoflHarris for spending their time, and quite possibly money, to correct and expedite this issue.
