Norton 360 Live Update Restart Issue

After I run Live Update for Norton 360 it keeps asking me to restart the computer for the changes to take effect. It always seems to download about the same 3MB and ask again to restart. All other functions of the program seem to be functioning normally. Thank You.

Welcome,

Acouple of questions first. What is your operating system and which version of 360 are you running? Also, what type of Internet connection do you have? I will assume that you are doing the reboot as requested. It may require a remove and reinstall of 360 but I'll wait on that until your responses are available. Others may have better ideas

Thanks

Thank You

I am running XP. I just installed 360 V5. I was running the previous version. I have a uverse (high speed connection) Same version was installed on two other computers and they work fine.

Can you check the system date and time? If it is incorrect, correct it, and then run LiveUpdate.

Thanks,

Will do but can't until tomorrow.

Tony,

How did you uninstall the previous version of N 360 when you upgraded to V5? Or did you leave it to the V5 Installer which does do an uninstall?

We do seem to find that some version upgraders do get less than perfect results when doing an On Top upgrade although within version upgrades usually go fine.

The simplest solution to this is to run the new Norton Removal & Reinstall Tool as below since this will uninstall and clean up the existing installation and then automatically reinstall the current version of your product.

As Delphinium suggests, a complete clean up and reinstall may be the best thing but I'd like to add a note about a new tool that Norton have just brought in that combines the removal and the reinstall into one operation:

Here is a link to the new Norton Remove & Reinstall tool that, like the older Norton Removal Tool removes most Norton Products from your system, but the newer tool uninstalls the Norton products from your computer and reinstalls the current version of your Norton security product.

If you already have the latest version of Norton AntiVirus, Norton Internet Security, or Norton 360, the Norton Remove & Reinstall tool reinstalls the same version of the Norton security product on your computer.

Note that it does Uninstall most other Norton Products (you can't select) and that it does not reinstall other Norton products you may have installed -- you have to do manually and we can point you to the download point for the current versions.

If you use the Identity Safe please Export the data to a safe place although the NR&RTool does do this as part of the procedure.

This link Symantec Norton Removal Tool. will direct you to the older Symantec Norton Removal Tool which can be used if the newer Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool does not fix the problem but then you have to reinstall manually and we can give you a link to the current version which will be more uptodate than a disk copy if that is what you have.

And note one final thing -- after installation run LiveUpdate several times with a reboot in between until it tells you that you are fully uptodate. This is important today if you use FireFox since the fix for FF 6 and the toolbar has just been released to LiveUpdate.

If you use FireFox see this:

Please let us know how you get on or if you have any queries ....

Thank you so much! Will do 8/17/11.

Hope all goes well ....

Hugh,

Ran NRnR didn't work.......it hung up.....had to 3 finger salute to restart the computer.

Ran Norton removal tool only......it worked.

reinstalled 360 via a download which worked even though I have and installed it from a disc. It knew my product code.

Seems to be working.

Sorry that the NR&RT did not work -- did you get any error messages?

Let us know if you need any help.....

I'll let Norton know about the failure with the NR&RT in case they need some more information.

no error messages just locked up. its still working.

Thanks -- I posted a note about this so perhaps someone will drop in with some ideas.

New Problem

When I try and log in the login will not let me type in my full email address. I.E the cursor stops and won't allow me any more spaces. I have to reset my password and enter via  a "back door".

Alson the message says it will send you your login and password. It will send you a password reset but does not allow you to change your login

Hi tonyandleslie,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the Norton Remove & Reinstall tool. Even though you're issue has been resolved after uninstalling it using the Norton Removal Tool, I wanted to help future customers by trying to understand better what exactly happened.

Would you be able to assist me by answering the following questions to the best of your ability?

1. At what point during the use of the Norton Remove & Reinstall tool did you notice the freeze up? Do you recall what it was displaying at the time?

2. Did the whole system freeze or just the Norton Remove & Reinstall tool itself?

3. Was there anything you did on the system immediately prior to using the tool?

4. Did you attempt to rerun the tool? If so, what happened?

5. Was your previous Norton 360v5 activated with a valid license key prior to using the Norton Remove & Reinstall tool?

Any help would be appreciated and again I apologize for the inconvenience.

Matt
