All settings you mentioned are ON (I should have mentioned that in my original post) . LiveUpdate is still not updating automatically.
Norton 360 is used on a laptop that goes into sleep mode when not used for a while - that has never affected LiveUpdate and automatic updates before though.
Someone on chat should have had select Settings > and under Quick Controls ensure that Automatic LiveUpdates was checked. As you state, you trun this off and it doesn't display a warning immediately. I do know that it warns me when I leave my laptop inactive for a period of about 14 days - so you may just have missed the "triggering point" of 14 days.
Did the chat folks have you check the date, time and time zone of your system clock?
Did you run Get Support (from main page of N 360 select support and then Get support)? Does it repair anything or come back clean?
I haven't checked, but you could make a suggestion on the Product Suggestion Board to include an indication when LiveUpdate has not run for a specific number of days less than the 14 as I believe it is based on now.
I had checked the settings to make sure automatic updates was selected but it was not updating. Overnight (with the computer turned off) it has suddenly fixed itself and is now updating automatically every few minutes. I also noticed there were a number of Windows updates to be downloaded (set to notify me when updates are available). I don't know what started the problem nor what solved it but to my mind 14 days is alright if you have decided not to have automatic updates but is far to long a gap before notifying otherwise as it means you are left vulnerable for all that time without knowing it. If you select the option of having automatic updates you should be advised immediately it is not working.
Was this the first time you turned off the computer since the updates stopped? Many times there are pending updates for Windows and your other installed software that require a system restart to be completed. A pending update could have held up your updates.
I turn my computer off every night. When I turned it on today I notice that the automatic update is again not working. I have ticked the box in the quick controls section of Settings. I have tried turning my modem off and everything I can think off including making sure my Norton software was up to date. I have just checked it again and it appears to have started automatically updating again. Whilst that solves my immediate problem it still doesn't explain why it is working intermittently. Looks like I will just have to check it daily to see if its working. I know that's not difficult but it is an exercise I shouldn't have to do.
If anyone has any suggestions as to what is causing it I would appreciate your advice.
The updates go out when there are updates so if there are no updates from Norton you won’t get any, so to check the frequency of the updates can you go to history, left hand drop down box click on full history then enter, Liveupdate session, in the search box on the right hand side of the window and click go, copy and paste what’s between the commas because if there’s a gap between live and update it won’t work(weel it doesn’t on my version 2012).
Are you having any connection problems with your internet connection?
For the times you weren’t getting updates where you using the internet meaning was there a connection that live updates could use.
Did you run Get Support (from main page of N 360 select support and then Get support)? Does it repair anything or come back clean?
If no joy with that I would suggest running the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool. If you use ID Safe for your log-ins, please Export that data prior to running the NRnRT - you shuold not lose the data, but I suggest doing it as a precaution. Of course you will have to run LiveUpdate (rebooting when requested) until you see "no updates found".
If that does not work - let us know and we'll go from there.

Another thing to check is that your system date and time are correct.
Thanks for your reply. I have checked the history and it is always showing completed. I notice that there were no updates between 14 July to 7 August, 2013. Does that still just mean there were no updates available as it seems a long break. My computer would have been on every day during that period. I turn it on first thing in the morning and turn it off in the evening when I go to bed and it is usually logged on to the internet all day also. It has plenty of idle time during the day. Whilst my connection is slow sometimes it has very few interruptions and I can't recall any recently.
Sorry if I seem a bit sporadic about my posts but this is the first time I've used a system like this so I'm trying to learn as I go. I had previously run the support check and that came back all clear. I have now run the remove and reinstall tool and will see what that achieves.
Someone else suggested I check the system date and I had already done that as that has caught me before.
AS I said in one of my other replies I have also checked the history which doesn't show any problems with the update sessions although there was a gap of something like 3 weeks during which it didn't run. What I don't know is whether it should have run, although I would have thought so as when it appears to be working properly it is updating (or checking for updates about every 10 minutes).
I'll monitor it over the next couple of days and let you know.
Pulse Updates normally run at close to 10 minutes intervals - thus you should not have gone such a long period without any LiveUpdates.
Just to verify the frequency of your LiveUpdates, please select Settings from the main page of N 360. The select Tasks > Check History. It will open to Recent History. On the right side of that block, select the small down arrow and then select LiveUpdate from the dropdown Menu. This should give you a few pages of LiveUpdate. Please verfiy the dates and times of the entries. Theyshold be occuring frequently and not show a gap of days in the listing. On the LiveUpdate list you can also double click any entry and it will provide a list of updates that were done by clicking on the + in Total entires.
Everyone is new here at one time or another, so need to apologize for being sporadic or anything else - you are doing fine. It is a learning proces, but the more you post - the more you can learn and the easier it will be for you. Remember, we are here to help - not only with the technicals tuff - but also any questions about the forums.
Whenever I check the Liveupdates in the security section it is always showing a time of no longer than about 10 minutes. I have also checked the Liveupdate session history and have attached a printout. I assume it only records an entry here when it actually downloads an update as I'm sure its telling me that its checking more often than is shown. The overnight gaps will be while my computer is turned off.
If you agree I think I can take it that whatever the problem was it has gone however if it is within the rules I would like to keep this topic open for the next week just to make sure it doesn't come back specially as I don't have a clue as to what caused it in the first place.
Meanwhile thanks for your help and at least I'll know what to look for next time.
The thread will remain open and if it takes longer than the usual time for you to feel comfrotable that it is fixed - you can always start a new thread and reference this one for anything you need to add.
