Norton 360 Multi Device does not run on Windows RT

I found this information about Windows RT after getting Norton 360 Multi Device, which of course doesn't run on Windows RT. Does anyone else have views or knowledge of what Norton will come up with fro RT?

Windows Defender is built-in to Surface RT (as well as Windows 8), but quite frankly, Surface RT makes it completely irrelevant.

Why?

Because no traditional desktop apps can run on a Surface RT device, which more-or-less guarantees that malware cannot be installed. Furthermore, the WinRT platform is a curated market, so any bogus apps are quickly dealt with... assuming they make it past the screening process in the first place, but those apps are also sandboxed to ensure that they can't cause harm to the system itself. Since these apps can't run on startup, even a bad app won't cause problems once you reboot, which allow a clean/safe removal path. Furthermore, IE is protected by SmartScreen, which has proven extremely effective in blocking access to rogue web sites (along with limited Flash support and banning Java).

On a traditional Windows 8 system, you can run unrestricted Flash and Java and desktop applications, but you get all of the other benefits. On those systems, Windows Defender and SmartScreen, are-- in my opinion AND experience-- perfectly sufficient to protect your system.

To me, it sound like you have pretty much answered your own question with your short tutorial on the RT system. The system seems inherantly protected by design.

What would you like to see as a Norton product for this platform? Maybe you can check the Product Suggestions board of the forum to see if anyone has already made suggestions. If not, you can start your own thread.

Here's what I would like to see. The Norton programmers get together with the MS programmers so that we N360 MD users can it onto our RT systems so that better protection, and have the capability to wipe  out our data remotely and track it's location if the RT is lost or stolen.

Here's a question. If we jail   break our RT, will N360 MD run on an ARM 32 bit system?

I'd like this as well.

I'm running 8.1 on my Surface RT and now i can't find any Norton Security products to install.

Are Norton apps for Windows RT discontinued?

badbob52 and jwelhouse,

There is a Product Suggestions Board that you can make suggestions for  Norton Products on and this would be a good place to be heard by Norton.

Norton does not cover win 8.1 on any platform as it is still a beta OS.
