Norton 360 no longer detects tracking cookies

For reasons I cannot  figure out, my Norton 360 stopped detecting tracking cookies, that it previously detected. I downloaded the v.6 version and I still have the same problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

how did you installed version 6? Did you installed it over the previous one, or did you removed the problematic one before? If you used only v6's installer to remove the old program you should try this out:

1. If you use the feature, please backup your Identity Safe data (Settings -> Identity Protection -> Backup)
2. Download latest Norton 360 installer (only the edition you bought):
- www.norton.com/n360s_6 Standard with 2GB Online Storage
- www.norton.com/n360p_6 Premier with 25GB Online Storage
- for other languages please go to the Norton Update Center and select manual product selectoion + change the language on the site's top: www.norton.com/nuc
3. Download Norton Removal Tool: www.norton.com/nrt
4. Disconnect from internet
5. Remove Norton 360 version from Start Menu or from Control Panel -> Add or Remove programs
6. Reboot
7. Run the Norton Removal Tool, reboot (repeat it 2-3 times)
8. Install Norton 360 version 6 with the previously downloaded installer
9. Reconnect to the internet
10. Activate Norton 360 version 6
11. Run Live Update until you get no new updates
12. Restore your Identity Safe data (Settings ->Identity Protection -> Restore)

You can check how the Norton Removal Tool works in this video.

Hi chill046,

Are you seeing this for manual scans as well as Idle Quick Scans?  The Idle Time Scans no longer look for tracking cookies in Norton Internet Security, and I assume this is probably true of Norton 360 as well.

Hello chill046,

I noticed this as well with my N360 version 5.0 - - so I decided to upgrade to 6.0.  Still the same thing.  When I ran a "quick scan" (typically where the tracking cookies would be picked up) nothing.  However, watch this.  I have a habit of just putting my computer into sleep mode never really re-starting it or fully shutting it down.  For the heck of it, I restarted my system THEN ran the "quick scan".  I now have to sound like Mordecai and Rigby from Regular Show.  Bingo!  Magically Norton found the two [2] usual suspects: doubleclick.net and Orphan cleanup.  It's funny.  When the scanner finds these nuissances it's like, "Where the heck did I pick those up from...."  However, when the thing turns back nothing it's like, "Is the program still working?"  LOL.  We can't seem to live with or without these things.  It's like that song by Bono, "With or without you".

Hope this helped,

H.B.
