Norton 360 Not Opening

I have a license from the disc my mom bought and each time 360 is installed it will work for the rest of the day (task bar icon, desktop shortcut, start menu, etc.), but the next day when I go to use my computer the task bar icon is gone and I click on the desktop or start menu icons but nothing happens. I get the hourglass for a couple seconds and the thinking light on my computer blinks, but after that nothing pops up.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but the same thing happens and yet no notice pops up on my computer saying I don't have anti-virus protection. It's like the program is there and running, it just won't let me open it.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

It was a 3 license copy.

I had AVG initially, but that was uninstalled through my programs, then I used Norton, then moved up to Norton 360.

When I'm told to use the Remove and Reinstall tool I can download it, but it won't open.

Correction: I use the RnR tool and it comes up with an error message that says "Could not gather details about layout or license. Click here for informationon how to uninstall and reinstall your Norton product manually." So I click and download the Removal tool, but it freezes at the " removing folder trees" part.

1) I 've used the Removal tool for older products and it does appear to "freeze" at some parts, but you just have to give it more time. Make sure you download the latest version of NRT for the correct program version you have installed.

2) This problem could also arise from the lack of maintenance of your PC. If your PC is loaded by tons of programs that run automatically during startup then it is possible that Norton takes forever to load and appears to be down. You could try to perform some basic maintenance tasks, such as disk clean-up and defragmenting, but first get rid of all the programs you don't need and make sure no other security program is installed (Start menu > control panel > Programs and features > Uninstall a program).  A helpful article by Microsoft for boosting your PC's performance can be found here http://www.microsoft.com/athome/setup/optimize.aspx#fbid=c9di8RJdnxm . Also, try to search and find a removal tool for your previous antivirus vendor - even if you have uninstalled the older program, running the tool could help remove any conflicting leftovers.

3) There is a possibility of a serious infection that prevents Norton from starting up. Go to the following link to get instructions and download the Norton Power Eraser tool for detecting viruses and other threats https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?ct=us&lg=en&product=home&pvid=f-home&version=1&docid=v48495311_EndUserProfile_en_us

Hope this helps

Regards,

John

You should have stuck with AVG...

You've opened a can of worms by purchasing Norton...
