Norton 360 on Android devices

Hi Peter,

Thanks for that; much as I expected, but why isn't it recognising my cloud-based logins when I'm in the ID Safe web page loyout?  I can't see a synchro button.  It recognises my password, though.

Are you saying you use the default browser on your phone to go to and log into the Identity Safe web page? And then you cannot get redirected and logged into a page you have  saved in ID Safe?

I just tried with Safari browser on my iPad and was not able to be logged in automatically from the ID safe page. This probably has something to do with the inability for apps to  pass info to each other.

Hi Peter,

I've just made a little progress.  The device I'm talking about is a Galaxy Tab3 tablet, not a phone (not that it should make a prctical diference, I suppose).

I've accepted the point made above, that if I want to use the ID Safe facilities, I can't use the standard internet button.

The  last time I tried to use the password manager, I got a "no logins" message, which I expected to see again, just now.   Here's what just happened.

SIgn on by hitting the Norton ID button, Norton black screen appears, blank.

Hit padlock on top right of tab bar, get logins list.

At first, there were two enties, an improvement, but far from the total list.

Whilst looking at the screen, another one appeared!

Clicked on one of the links and got the screen shown above, with options under the page to sign in or edit, wihtin the page to copy/show username and password.

I clicked on "sign in" and got the correct web page but not auto fill.

I tried again, but this time hit copy on username and password before signing in and it worked - auto fill, straight into the site.

Having done it once, the next sign in was OK.

I left the page, opened Norton ID again and this time the logins were there straight away, ie no Vault sign in screen.

I shut down/restarted the tablet and tried again.

This time I got the Open Vault sign in as above.  I signed in and the three logins appeared.

I signed in to one of them and went straight in.

I opened up another site I have a log in for and signed in.  No sign of ID Manager looking for this and offering to save it, as it would have done on the PC.  I had to use the New Login option to get it registered, even though it's on the main vault.

I filled in the boxes and saved the result.  The new login appeared.

I hit it and signed in without using the copy username, etc routine and it went in OK.

So, the lessons I learned this morning:

1.  When you first use a login, you have to copy the username and password from the vault.

2. Once this is done, no need to do it again.

3.  The Vault is active until you shut down the machine.

4.  I can add new logins and they appear to survive shut down and restart.

So, the only question remaining, is why doesn't the Vault offer me the other logins saved in the cloud?

Ian

You say another login appeared while you watched the screen. What happens if you wait a long time? Do more logins appear?

Although the apps do not seem to be connected, see if you can find a setting to clear the internet cache or history for the default browser.

I am not sure how used you are to Android so let me try and help with Peterweb's suggestion.  Peterweb is an Apple man and does not use Android as far as I am aware...

To clear an app cache, select menu from the device main screen, then select "System Settings" and look down the list to find "Apps".  Selecting this should bring up a list of apps and will probably start off showing a list of downloaded apps.  If you wish to work with an app that was installed on the original device - such as the default browser you may need to swipe across to the "All" list.  Select the app you are interested in, e.g. Browser, or Norton Identity Safe password, and leave the screen to settle down (you will probably initially see it "Calculating").  When it has settled you will get an option, probably near the bottom of the screen which says "Clear Cache".

I hope that helps.  What I must admit is that I am not sure if peterweb meant clear the cache of the Android "default browser" (which will appear under the All tab as "Browser") or the cache for Norton Identity Safe which I believe has its own browser.  Sorry if I am being slow here Peter.

P.S. the instructions above are as they work for me, different devices and different versions of Android may work slightly differently.  So if you have any problems with this, just say so and I will try and help.

Hi Both,

Thanks.  I tried Peter's suggestion and managed to have the page live for about half an hour before the tablet was snatched back by the owner.  :smileysurprised:  No change registered, but at least the log ins that were there still worked.  That's progress.

I'll have a look at the cache suggestion when I can get my hands on it again.

Meanwhile, thanks again,

Ian

Thanks for helping here Mike.

Correct Mike. I only have iPad experience, and not too much of that as far as configuration goes:smileytongue:

Yes, Norton Identity Safe has its own browser. Ideally I would be suggesting clearing the cache for the ID Safe browser, as that is the app we are trying to 'fix'. Again, I was not able to find such settings on the iPad. Maybe someone can tell me how to do that, if it can be done.

P.S. the instructions above are as they work for me, different devices and different versions of Android may work slightly differently.  So if you have any problems with this, just say so and I will try and help.

Hi all

What i can find in the way of clearing the cache with the Android version of Norton ID Safe

(NID Safe) can be found in the menu and settings within the app.

Open the NID Safe app and tap the box top right of the screen -

154.jpg

Then with the drop down menu swipe to the bottom of it to find the Settings option -

Select or tap Settings then in the next screen tap Privacy and Security from the options -

4.png

Then you have a few options or settings now that you can choose from -

You can set the Automatic Logout for NID Safe and you can clear the Cache and you

can also clear the NID Safe browser history.

5.png

Just tap Clear cache then select Ok -

6.png

Then tap and select Clear history and again select OK -

Now you can back out of the NID Safe settings and close the app and shut down the Android

device then restart and open NID Safe and sign in and try the cloud vault to see if the steps

above have fixed you issues.

If not you could try a fresh install of NID Safe by uninstalling and downloading again from Google

Play.

Keep us posted on how you go.

I hope you find that info and the screenshots helpful.

Cheers. :smileywink:

Note - The testing i did was with a Galaxy Tab 2 with JB 4.1.2    :)

Appologies that the screenshots are probably not visible yet as i have gone ahead

and posted them anyway as i may not have time this arvo.

Also some info for peterweb being what i can find with the iOS version of NID Safe

and how to clear the cache is there appears to be a few ways from what i read and

also from some testing -

With iOS 7 users can double tap the home key and swipe away and close any app

that is open, I believe this will free up memory and also clear the cache for the

particular app. ? Not 100% sure. :)

Then you can also use the option in the iOS app it's self.

Open the iOS NID Safe app and tap the icon pointed out below -

153.jpg

Then you will be given a few options from the drop down menu -

1.jpg

Select Clear Cache then Yes to confirm the action -

I hope that info helps if you have not already tried the steps.?

Cheers. :smileywink:

PS - Again i am sorry about the images not being visible yet hopefully they will be soon.

A result!  I opened ID Safe this morning and another login appeared.  I followed the above instructions on clearing th cache (thanks), uninstalled the app, reinstalled it and all my logins were there (stored alphabetically), so I can consider my problem solved.

The only curiosities were, I guess, Adnroid issues, but I'll record them just in case:

I pressed and held the ID icon and it disappeared.

I went to the Google Play shop and found the app.  I was offered the choice of uninstall or open.

I checked open and was able to sign on as usual.

After signing off, I checked for the login icon but couldn't find it, so the app's there but hidden (?).

I visited the Google Play shop again and uninstalled/reinstalled the app.

It took quite a while to register and even longer to sign in the first time.

Second time I signed in it was quick, back to normal.

Thanks again, all,

Ian
