Hi Forum:
I've been using Norton 360 for about 3 years and recently updated to Norton 360 Premier. I'm on the latest version which is
Norton 360 Premier Edition
20.4.0.40
Error: 8504, 104
Windows 7 Home Premium
7601.18113.amd64fre.win7sp1_gdr.130318-1533
Norton Autofix Results: 0 item(s)
I've had this issue previously and spent time on the phone with Technical Support. I have de-intalled and re-installed the product, etc. I'm not running any other 3rd party anti virus, etc., software. My rig is a Dell XPS 15Z and all the OS is updated as of this past Tuesday regarding MS patches. I let Norton Autofix run and it sometimes finds something and fixes it or it will continue to run and I will need to "force" stop the process because it does not find anything.
I've read other related issues, but am not aware of any resolutions. This is more of a pesky issue and it's infrequent; however, I would like to resolve it if possible. I appreciate any feedback.
Take Care,
Glenn
Hi GlennGAH
The autofix tool should not keep running it should stop.
As you where having problems with the previous version and some people are reporting problems with upgrading with an update (I’m not sure if this is how you did the upgrade) a clean reinstall is what I suggest following the instructions below for Norton but do all the downloads needed relating to this post first. The new version 20.4.0.40 may be available from your Norton account on the yellow download button. If its not Edjr60 post has a process to get the download link
Check Edjr60 post number 11 on the link below. You’ll need to request the product version you have I think as this link is on the NIS, NAV forum.

To uninstall any security software use the windows add/remove programme then restart the computer, then run the removal tool for the specific version of the security software that is available from the security software’s main site, then restart the computer. This process should be done for each security software to be uninstalled, meaning one at a time.
As you have run the removal tool for Norton then, reinstall Norton restart the computer, run live updates as many times as it takes to get, no more live updates, restarting as required.
You might like to backup the personal data and you’ll need to backup or export your identity safe and any other users identity safe if it is used, before doing the above.

Hello Intesec:
I appreciate your suggestions and I will follow through with your suggestion. I'll let you if this resolves the issues.

After running the Norton Removal Tool, reboot your computer and log into your Norton Account. Click on the Download button beside your current subscription. This will download and install a preactivated copy of your 360. This way you do not gave to guess about which download link to use.
As always, run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.
I'm still running into issues. I removed the product per the previous suggestions and installed the newest 20.4 version from a link that I previously received from Tony Weiss. It was working for a few hours and after shutting my rig down and booting back up, Norton 360 Premium failed to load. The difference this time is that I was able to execute the program through the "all programs" option.
I'm going to try out the beta v.21 and see if that makes a difference. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
GlennGAH

A caution note....It is not wise to use a beta version of the Norton software unless you have a test system that you do not care if it gets hosed during testing. You should never use your daily use computer for testing.
If you are going to test with your daily use computer, make sure you have complete backups of all drives, preferably with an imaging software.
To try fixing what you have now, try clicking on Support - Get Support to run Autofix to check your installation and fix what it finds.
Also, be sure you have run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.
Not trying the beta version and running into continuous issues with Norton 360. I've "re-booted" my computer twice already this morning and am still receiving the Error Message 8506, 421. Norton AutoFix is running, but nothing happens. I've "de-installed" and "re-installed" the product several times and still no resolution. HELP!!!
Hi GlennGAH
Jus checking that you have uninstalled the Norton product with the windows add/ remove programme, then restarted the computer, then run the Norton removal tool, then restarted the computer?
As some downloads contain things in the bundle that may contain security software that could cause a problem I’ve attached a list of security software links to the removal tools for the security software. Copy just the name into the search facility in windows explorer after clicking on computer and or look in window add/remove programmes, programme data, programme files for the security software on the list.
You may have corrupted windows files so run a scan check from the instructions on the link below that may repair or give a report of the corrupted files.

Hi Intesec:
I originally misread your suggestion and did not remove Norton 360 from the "add / remove" programs prior to using the Norton Removal Tool. I de-installed using your suggested method and it's been running for a couple of days problem free. I also checked the system with the MS Tool and there were no OS files that were corrupted.
Thanks for your help and I'll check back if anything else happens.

It's been 2 weeks and Norton 360 is workkng well! I think the issue had to do with a corrupted Norton file and the fact that I was only using the Nortorn Removal Tool and not removing the program via with Windows Add/Remove Program option prior. I appreciate the Forum's assistance with this!
