Norton 360 Premium update for Win 11 - now various website access issues

Issue abstract: Various website access issues after Norton 360 Premium update on Win 11 last week

Detailed description: After a Norton 360 Premium Live update last week on my partner’s Dell Inspiron 16 5620 laptop, various websites had access issues with the waiting symbol spinning but never getting there.

Tried clearing all browser cache and cookies etc, checked all updates for windows 11, chrome, edge, firefox but no joy. Ran Dell updates and system checks through Dell Support Assist, no joy. Tried Norton 360 Premium uninstall, Restart, then re-install Norton 360 Premium, no joy.
Tried adding websites to Browser Protection exclusion list so they wouldn’t be scanned, no joy.

After hours of no success, tried switching off Norton 360 components one by one until Browser Protection off allowed website access again. Went through the individual Browser Protection settings until the culprit seemed to have been found - the “QUIC/HTTP3” setting. When this was switched off, the website access to various sites and logins all seem to work fine again.

The issues popped up again after a couple of days. This happened after either a Liveupdate, Smartscan or Full system scan where the QUIC/HTTP3 setting appears to have been automatically switched back on. Switched off and all seems to be OK again.

Is it OK to leave QUIC/HTTP3 off until the apparent bug is fixed? Am I better off Uninstalling Norton 360 Premium and relying on the Microsoft WIN 11 Security protection instead?

Product & version number: Norton 360 - v24.10.9535 (build 24.10.9535.880)

OS details: Win 11 v23H2 (build 22631.4317)

P.S. - Did a forum search for “QUIC/HTTP3” and found mention in a thread called “Video / audio stuttering” under “Norton 360 for Windows”

Your Norton installation should protect you with QUIC/HTTP3 disabled. I have mine enabled with Opera GX, the two issues I see is when opening the browser it takes a few seconds for my standard page to load. I also, at times, have to close and reopen the browser to get my password manager to unlock my vault.

Cheers for that SA!
It seemed to get worse on my partner’s Dell laptop each time she tried logging in to WIX, WEEBLY and even ONEDRIVE. Had to constantly cancel & clear Browser cache and restart but didn’t improve until QUIC/HTTP3 was switched off. I figured it must be defaulting back to HTTP2 which is still quick and solid.

Very disappointed in NORTON for not posting work arounds on this bug. Wasted hours and almost went to fresh install of WIN 11 as I found no information online. Rang what I thought was a NORTON support no. to be greeted with an Indian call centre with a bad connection. After explaining in detail what the issue was while the person seemed to constantly mute the phone, I was told they wanted remote access. I said I wasn’t comfortable with that and he hung up.
As far as I could tell I rang a genuine NORTON no. (1 800 870 272?) Is this typical or did I inadvertently ring a scammer no? The Google search result address seemed genuine and had the NORTON logo. There seemed to be different web addresses in the results so is it pot luck?

Luckily good old fashioned troubleshooting did the trick!

Thanks for the post back. I assume disabling QUIC/HTTPS saved the day for you? 1-888-681-1964 is the standard number for support that I can come up with, most likely one for the US.

Yep, turning off QUIC/HTTP3 solved the problem after going through the process of elimination!

The 1-800- no. I tried calling (for Australia), was listed as per image below but I think it may be a scammer. Was the 1st Google result for Norton 360 support phone number Australia -

Indeed. Anything labeled “Sponsored” is usually a paid, parked URL scammers use.
