Norton 360 Program Updates

I allowed Norton 360 standard to update my programs.

After the update I received a message in Excel when I clicked on a short cut for a file, " that this file was created by a later version of Excel than the one you’re using" and it asks if I wanted to Download a compatibility of the pack.

When I clicked on the link for the new compatibility pack I was advised that the pack is no longer available

I can open the files by first opening Excel and then clicking on the file history. However, if I click on the file itself or use a shortcut for the file I get the same error message.

As I said this occurred after I used Norton 360 standard to update my programs

If anybody else has had this problem and knows of a correction that can be made so I can use shortcuts to open the files I would appreciate your assistance:

It is a big step but I assume you have the MS office suite. You could completely remove Office and then reinstall from your MS account. This would of course, effectively meaning starting again from scratch and changing any customised settings. If you use Office Outlook, that will require setting up as well which is a bit tricky, by default MS wants you to use IMAP - bad choice. Office, auto updates if set to do so which it is by default. By reinstalling, you will get the latest MS version. Another case of Norton Software Updater should be avoided at all costs.
I have an old laptop running office 2013, had an issue last year, had to reset computer, downloaded Office 2013 from MS account all works OK. This has an earlier version of Office than that installed on this Desktop but can deal with both versions.

I have Office Home and Student 2019.

The problem occurs only on my desk top.

It does not occur on my laptop although I am using the same MS subscriptions on both the desktop and the lap top.

Since I can open the files by opening Excel and choosing the file in the program I will just do that for now.

Thanks for your reply.

You have found yet another reason why you should never allow Norton Software Updater to install new versions For that matter you should never allow any third party software to update your apps.

You can have Norton scan for updates and then manually update them yourselves thru the manufacturer’s web site or internally thru the app check for update link.

@RaspputinII Look in your Windows updates history for the compatibility pack Norton installed. Remove it and reboot. What is the OS and its version on the affected device?

I clicked on the unistal tab and the response was that an uninstall error occurred.

Windows 11 64 bit.

I give up.

I will just open the files from with in the programs rather than clicking on a short cut.
