Norton 360 refreshing the desktop?

Hey,

So recently I have noticed on both my desktop and then my laptop that at times when Norton 360 is performing some background tasks all of the icons on the desktop will suddenly disappear and refresh. Is this a part of the update for the current version of Norton 360? I usually only use one computer on a network at a time and I only go to certain sites that I know are safe. Any input is appreciated!

Thanks!

When the desktop refreshes like you describe it is usually done by the Windows Explorer process. This can be triggered by different  events that could be involved with any program or process on your system.

As you suggest, when an update to a program is taking place, a desktop refresh can be called to update the icon for the program, to reflect any change to the path to the program's files.

Also, the icons on the dsktop will blink when a Norton Patch is being applied - when it shuts down applications and when it restarts them.

Oh alright. Thanks for all of your replies!

I was wondering what exactly that was taking place because I never noticed it happening before the latest update to the Norton 360 system. I have been getting those new Norton 360 patches from time to time and it will usually ask me if I would like to go ahead and apply the patch now or it will automatically install itself later. Usually when the computers are idle it will do that but sometimes it will happen when I am working as well.
