The premier version simply gives you more storage space online. If you have a current license for N360 version 1 and it's still good, you can download version 2 for FREE.  I know you'll like it if you liiked version 1. Then you only need to purchase a subscription.

Start here and read:  version 2

I did the upgrade a couple of weeks before mine expired and still had to renew for the full price so unless they changed something I don't think that's necessarily true.  If it is true, Symantec owes me (a lousy $20).

Wow, I’m surprised Symantec would do that to returning customers.

I've seen postings about nasty problems in the 2.0 install process -- people not being able to fully remove the older version, as is necessary. I'm not a techie, and don't like the idea of having to deal with that kind of thing.

Any other 1.0 to 2.0 upgraders -- or Symantec pros -- who can share their experiences?

hi pugsam - didn't run into any installation problems per se, but the install was very long and did include an automated uninstall section prior to reboot. there was some confusion about backup settings, but recovered using this article:

other than that, nothing of note going from V1 to V2 (XP SP2)

Thanks, Mel.   I decided to simply renew for now.

Presumably, I can upgrade w/o additional cost at any time during my V1 subscription period.  So I may do that eventually, if it appears that all the kinks are out of the upgrade process.

Hope I don't have to do a recovery using that article you sent!     :-)

Just to clear up some confusion: Your subscription is to “Norton 360”, and not to “Norton 360 v1” or “Norton 360 v2”.

Norton 360 customers with a current subscription are eligible to download and use the latest product version updates for Norton 360 as they become available during your subscription period. Symantec is providing these features to fine tune your PC and give you even greater protection from today’s latest online threats including phishing websites, spyware, viruses, and hackers.

You can choose to retrieve these updates at anytime you want during your subscription period, or continue to use your existing security software, with no changes in functionality, for the remainder of your subscription period. You may renew your subscription at any time while subscription renewals are available.

Norton 360 customers with trial versions or introductory 30, 60, 90, 180-day subscriptions are eligible to download and use the latest product version updates once a full version of Norton 360 is purchased from the trial version or introductory subscription.

Click here to Update from Norton 360 version 1 to Version 2.

Huh?

Tony, you said,  "Just to clear up some confusion: Your subscription is to “Norton 360”, and not to “Norton 360 v1” or “Norton 360 v2”."

But then, in the same message, you say,  "Click here to Update from Norton 360 version 1 to Version 2."

I don't get it.   Which is it,  "Norton 360"  or  "Norton 360 v1"  or  "Norton 360 version 1"?

And do you really care?

To me, the important question is the one that I asked -- and on which I'd appreciate your advice, as a Symantec administrator -- is whether I'll be able to update smoothly.    As I noted in my postings above, other users have reported problems, so I just renewed my subscription without trying to update yet.      What can you tell me?    Are people still having trouble with the update process?

Thanks.

And if you're saying that a subscription to v1 is equivalent to a subscription to v2, then I'm puzzled because when I went through the renewal process I was offered the choice of either renewing for $59.99 or updating to v2 "premier" for, I think, $79.99.

So it does seem to create what you referred to as "confusion."

I apologize; let me further clarify.

Your subscription is for Norton 360 (either standard or premier), regardless of the version. If you have paid for a subscription, and it is still active (not expired) you are eligible to have the latest version of the product. When you click the "Update" link, you are updating the software, not the subscription. You will maintain the same subscription that you have already, and it will be applied to the latest version of Norton 360 that you install.

As to your important question, like others have stated in this thread, the update should run smoothly.

Now, there is a distinction between Norton 360 Standard, and Norton 360 Premier. As stated in this thread, the Premier edition allows the user more online storage space. In your later post, this would explain why the subscription to Norton 360 Standard and Norton 360 Premier would differ in price.

I hope this answers your questions. Whether Norton 360 v1, Norton 360 version 1, or simply Norton 360, it can all be updated to the latest version for free, as long as your subscription is still active.

I believe the extra $20 is for an ‘additional’ 2 or 3 gigs for data storage. Premier offers the additional space online. versus the normal N360 version.

Just because an occasional "other users" may have had trouble doesn't mean your machine will. Some "other users" get blue screen of death when they turn on their computers. Each case is individual. I would suggest to you that you should update to v2. I don't think you will regret it.....

BTW, sorry to jump in here pugsam, I'm not an administrator just a happy user..

Thanks, guys, for the clarification and support!

I'm emboldened to do the update.   And I'll let you know how it goes....
