Norton 360 resets every day automatic my program control setting. Going crazy

doesn't work Every year i buy a key from Amazon. I don´t have an abo. I can´t choose Norton Security or so. WTF?

Hello @Andre_Korb
fwiw ~ I’ve never had an issue reaching live Chat support agent – regardless of which product I select. If you want to reach a human support agent. Simply get past Norton’s attempt to push DIY help articles and Norton’s attempt to gather telemetry. If your goal is to reach a human support agent. Just click any presets or whatever satisfies you. Your goal is to get past Norton bots/presets and such.

Yes i know. Thank you. I´m wondering. Am i the only one who has this problem because i use “Ask” and nobody from the organisation has checked it?

I work whit norton to tjek the site there produckt if there is major bug plus more im a norton software enginer a person who work outsite norton to help the normal worker

Hello @Andre_Korb
May be best – for you – to document/report “issue” directly via Norton support.
Norton support will likely request remote session – to see – as you see.

Note: for an official Norton support response – open a support case:

Caveat: I’m not able to document/report issue via Norton support – since, I’m not using Ask mode.

===

Norton Smart Firewall → Ask mode is not widely used by most consumers anymore. It tends to expose edge-case bugs because modern Norton development is much more centered around automatic trust/reputation workflows than dense manual firewall management.
Norton Smart Firewall → Ask mode is somewhat of a legacy/advanced-use feature inside a product increasingly optimized for automatic decisions.

===

may behave more predictably for advanced rule management than modern consumer-suite firewalls.

Any new news? A few Minutes ago the firewall reset again, no restart or crash, used the PC 4 or 5 hours.

Hi, I spent a few days at the Rock am Ring festival and then a few days on a business trip.

In the middle of all that, I regularly checked my PC and firewall settings myself or had them checked (and waited for a Norton update).

About a week ago, the settings stayed stable for a few days and didn’t reset after every startup. But for the past 5 days or so, there’s been a reset every day. Thanks to Smart, I don’t have to struggle with all the programs, but UNFORTUNATELY, because of the reset, I have to manually block two programs in the settings. It’s annoying. Norton, what the heck is going on with you guys in 2026? Again… I’ve been using Norton for 15 years and I’ve NEVER had these or similar problems. Basically, I’ve never really had any issues. Until now. Unfortunately, I’m not at my PC during the day (except maybe on weekends), so live support doesn’t work (I don’t think there’s 24/7 support). What exactly should I do?

Care to share your geo-location/country?

  • 24/7 Availability: A global network of support centers enables Norton to offer customer assistance at any time, across different time zones, which is crucial for a product that provides continuous security protection.

I have exactly the same problem. I am using Norton produtcs for 28 years now.. I had never a problem in the past. But this issue really annoys me. Is there a solution in the meantime? Thanks, W.

Thank for the advice. I´m from Germany.

Hello @Andre_Korb

The published business hours clearly apply to the listed phone numbers. Norton does not appear to publish separate Chat hours on that page, so it is unclear whether Chat follows the same schedule or is routed through a broader support network with different availability.

The published business hours on the Germany support page apply to the listed phone numbers. If those hours don’t fit your schedule, you could try the Chat option during the evening or weekend and see whether agents are available when you’re online.

@Andre_Korb @SuperDaniel_274_de @wtj87 Just an observation from an event that happened to me this morning. Would each of you open your Windows Events Manager and look for an event ID 41 being logged, and filter manager entries prior to that. Also, check your Norton history for entries to corelate with those time stamps in event viewer.

Regards,
SA

Hi SA.. thank you for your answer.

That’s really interesting, because yesterday I lost my program control list again and after checking the Windows Events Manager, there was an entry with event ID 41 a few minutes before.

Since March 2026, I have 25 entries with ID 41. If I had to guess, that would be roughly the number of Program Control failures/loss I’ve had in the meantime.

ID 41: “The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first”

My BIOS is up-to-date, also all drivers. Win 11 Pro with all updates.

Thank you, W.

@wtj87 Opening one of those event ID 41 entries and reviewing what does this tell you? Does the entry(s) contain the statement where you see “nllMonFlt” within it? This should show under event ID 6 and, does it correlate with the time stamp of the event 41 entry? If so, I have already reported it and have a support file with an ID. Please advise.

SA

What is this? I´m sure my PC runs well.

Where can in find this Norton history for checking entries
