Hey guys,
Wondering if you can help out.
Our computer started slowing down on some applications, notably junst windows stuff, such as logging in, opening windows, etc.
I tried a full virus scan via 360, but about 5500 files in, it starts to come to a crawl
I've removed/wiped the Norton products and reinstalled it as the "24/7 tech support recommends, and am updated to 5.0 witht all updates, but it still gets stuck/slows right down at the same point.
Any ideas?
Hey Dick,
Yeah I thought I should of mentioned it.
O/S is Windows Vista Home Premium
3 GB memory
Roughly 188 GB of disk space available.
No other ant-virus programs on it.
Cleaned up my drive this morning. Oddly the Norton disk optimizer seemed to work, but Windows disk defragmenter seemed to take a while.
They work a bit differently so their speeds can vary
It appears that you have enough space and horsepower to get the job done
My next guess would be that the files being scanned are more complicated that the average
I have a few large zipped and .cab files that look like they have brought the system to its last gasping breath
When I'm patient it recovers and I beging to breathe again
System is W7 w/8G RAM 3 internal and 3 external drives - system scans take time
I uspect it could be a drive issue ie: power.
My laptop is a P4 running XP with 1GB and Norton 360 blasts right through.
The slowdown really starts when it begins scanning the HKEY_USERS folders, then checking for various tracking/spyware programs.

Didn't suspect that based on the system description
Still avery viable possibility, thanks for reminding me
I've installed a 950W power supply just to prevent that type of thing - but then I also have more toys running :)
I also noticed when I do a Norton compatibility scan that it has probs reading the drivers for the card readers. I rest all of those but after a while Norton finds the same problem
