Norton 360 tired of being hustled for more junk

I have had 360 for years, and finally got tired of having them, hustling me all the time for some other add on feature that runs from 25 to 70 dollars… I finally just broke it off with them. Wished they would have simply come out with all inclusive program that had all their safety features…

Hi james-weaver,

I think the whole advertising thing increased alarmingly when the company “Gen” took over.

As well as the N360, I also use CCleaner, which is also the responsibility of the company Gen. Here, too, you are bothered daily with various advertising pop-ups that have to be laboriously clicked away while using the PC.

Me also! I’m currently evaluating which product I want to switch to. Can I( ask what you will be doing?

I have a friend that has been fixing and working on computers from his home for years, and suggested I simply go with the one that comes with my computer… the windows security… I dumped Norton had a heck of time figuring out how to turn off autorenew…but i am done with them…I am going to give the windows one a try, I don’t have tons of top secret junk on my computers so not totally paranoid…good luck…

Defender is much better than it originally was. But MS being what they are, maybe it is only a matter of time before they decide to make it into some kind of paid subscription. However I am just about to the point where I will uninstall Norton on one computer and just live with Defender solo for a while.

I remain loyal to Norton and like its features. However I have always bought it in a store, at a clearly marked price (not changing day to day as on Norton sites) and entered the key code at renewal time. As a once a year task, it has always been too complicated, and I find myself having to go to support pages or google to refresh my memory about where to click.

At least in the USA I just read that a new regulation will require merchants to set up their websites so that it is easier to turn off auto-renewals.

It is too complicated to renew through Norton. I can’t recommend it for this reason, to people who are not at least medium plus computer literate. The nagging popups bother me, but they scare and confuse people who are not more computer literate.

No they are not perfect but Chrome OS machines solve a lot of problems with all updates easy to install and free. Even easier than Defender. So for some time now I have been recommending Chrome OS to people.

I gave them warnings for nearly two years about the pop-up constant nags. I had 10 licenses and had been loyally using Norton for decades, but now had to deal with every pop-up on each of those 10 PCs every day… I have moved to Malwarebytes with Defender and the Malwarebytes Microsoft Firewall configurator. Am extremely joyous to be done with Nortads.

Hello everyone.
I could imagine switching to the unobtrusive Windows Defender on the PCs. But I like the N360 protection on the smartphones so far. Also the constant pop-ups are kept there to a minimum.

I signed up for and ran Norton Utilities Ultimate…and now have issues with mypc BOOTING & FILE EXPLORER access

When I first took out Norton many years ago the deal was that it would protect me and they would update the software as often as required to keep me safe.
So it is intensely annoying to be told repeatedly by the protection software you have paid good money for to protect you, that it does not protect you for a long list of important things that can only be protected for by paying a further premium for.
No!
If those things are so important they should be included in the basic package.
The word RORT comes to mind.

A caveat regarding MS Defender: when Windows 10 reaches end of support next year, I would think that MS Defender will also stop working for Windows 10. Unless maybe MS offers a consumer level updating service; then I would think they would have to fold Defender into the package.
If you will be buying updates from a 3rd party such as 0patch, you will still need security software. I assume Norton would continue to support Win 10 as they did with other MS OS’s in the past. An argument in favor of Norton.

Yep every other week something new to keep up with changing methods used by hackers. But unfortunately whole system is now too complex to keep up with. They need to assess their whole product lineup - how’s McAvee?

At the moment seems to be OK, but honestly I have no idea if its a good one or not, I do my scans with it, and hopefully it will pick up on any issues… I really wish Norton would just have a full content version even it was a couple hundred bucks. I tallied up the additional 4 o 5 things they wanted to sell me and I think it added another200 dollars to my already $125 renewal from last year… They suck you in with the 50 dollar one year offer…and you hooked.

I used Norton ad url and placed it into blocked sites

I ran away from McAfee years ago. Their software kept me from updating their software. It was fighting with itself. Spent over 16 hours with support, Starting with just click this and reboot. That failed and escalated up the support chain. After staying awake all night, the first support person came back in and saw that nothing they recommended worked. They were hopeless. I was without a virus protection. I spent the rest of the next day going through every registry, ini files, etc to manually delete anything that was McAfee. … Their support community was just as bad as this community with people bashing their product with no help from them.

I’m also very annoyed about the messages buying another product. I don’t want to use Norton Utilities, I paid for Norton 360 Premium and just want to use that. It should be at least possible to disable those advertisements once and forever. I have been a customer from Norton for decades, but now am really thinking moving to a different product, it is so annoying.

Yes I’ll add my voice to the list of complaints about popups and nags to spend more. Hopefully they are sensible enough to read users’ comments but I won’t hold my breath. I am now at breaking point and looking to go elsewhere with competition. I am also sick and tired of trying how to find something simple that is hidden deep in the settings somewhere. I want Nortons to protect me in the background and in between 12 month renewals I don’t want to hear from them at all unless I am attacked by something truly nasty that needs my intervention.
ARE YOU LISTENING NORTON ? YOU ARE ABOUT TO LOSE CUSTOMERS !!!

Adam 310 AMEN to your comments actually better put then mine…

I can ignore the nags, but it would be great if Norton had a setting allowing us to turn them off.
What bugs me is how other less computer experienced users in the household are frightened by the warnings and nags and call me to find out what to do. This defeats the purpose of having norton ITFP, which IMO is to protect the system in the background, without scaring the user.
Also sorry Norton I have had nothing but bad experiences with programs that want to tune up my machine or decide which drivers to update So I am not going to let norton do it either.
On the plus side the new UI is an improvement. When is it coming to Win 11? My Win 11 machines don’t have the new UI yet.
