Norton 360 Uninstall/reinstall

I got some Norton pop-ups yesterday that it was blocking malicious attacks.  This morning when I woke up there was a Norton notification in the center of my computer that I needed to restart to finalize the fixes Norton had made.  After I restarted, I got some kind of error message saying that it couldn't do it (sorry, I didn't write down what it said).  It made a log, 1% at a time (don't know where that went to) and told me I'm now unprotected and I have to uninstall and reinstall.  It sent me to some other page where I was instructed to click on an icon, download it and save it to my desktop and follow the instructions from there.  When I clicked on the Icon from the desktop and attempted to run the file, I got another error message informing me that it "could not gather details about the installed layout or licenses.  Click HERE for information on how to uninstall and reinstall."  It took me right back to the same page and the same download I had already done.  Can someone please help me fix this problem and get Norton back onto my computer, which is now apparently unprotected.

I am currently running Norton 360 and it was last renewed in November 2013.  If you need any other info (serial number, etc.), let me know.  Thanks.

Shari,

Hang on for some help in sorting this out but a couple of points meanwhile.

I don[t think I would remove N 360 until you hear back from others here since that woujld leave you unprotected from malware attacks .... you don't have another security application installed do you since that could cause errors of the kind you  mention.

N 360 V4 is very very old since the 2012 version was V6 and then Norton changed the ID system to match that used for Norton Internet Security and AntiVirus which was V19 and is now V20.

So the version you have now is the current one.

Could you please tell us what version of Windows you have on your PC including the Service packs and whether it is 32 bit or 64 bit (I suspect it is 32 bit if you were using such an old N 360).  You can find out about all that if you can get to System Information on your computer.

I'm not a data recovery expert, but I have heard that PhotoRec can be of assistance. This may help in getting your files back.

Be aware that there are no guarantees. You should download this on another computer, as everything you add to the problem computer increases the chance that you will overwrite one of the files you are trying to recover.

When you have tried this, come back and we can guide you through reinstalling your 360.
