Hi Symantec People
Please can you clear up a question that I know has many Norton 360 people confused
When I first got my Vista computer ...
It came with a trial of Norton Internet security 2007
The trial worked fine for the first 3 weeks.
Being new to Vista and knowing I had Norton installed - I didn't bother even looking at Defender in those first 3 weeks.
I knew I was getting updates for Defender via Windows Update ... But I didn't know if it was scanning.
Then one day I got curious, and decided to take a look at Defender.
Defender was switched ON ... But said - Last Scan Not Available!
I also noticed it was set to scan at 2 am in the morning.
Worried there was something wrong...
I ran a Full Scan with Defender - Then set it to Quick Scan at 3pm every afternoon.
A few days later I realised something was wrong with my trial of Norton Internet Security 2007.
I could no longer update my virus definitions.
Knowing it was only a trial anyway!
I uninstalled Norton 2007 and installed Norton 360 v 1
Defender was still switched ON
So to be on the safe side.... I set Defender back to scan at 2am in the morning - When my computer would be OFF.
In fact - I realised a week or so later .... This just meant Defender scanned at Start Up.
However...
Norton 360 v 1 seemed happy .... So I left Defender as it was!
Now and again Defender would pop up saying - " Your computer has not been scanned for 3 days - Scan Now "
Still Norton 360 v 1 seemed happy .... So I left Defender as it was!
Then when I updated to Norton 360 v 2
Defender was turned OFF during the installation.
I made the decision....
That if Norton had turned Defender OFF ... It must be for a reason - And I left Defender OFF
But I also have a friend with Norton 360 v 2 - And she has turned Defender back ON
I have problems with my Norton 360 v 2
My friend doesn't have any problems with her Norton 360 v 2
Note!
My friend turned her Defender back on again because there are parts of Defender that have nothing to do with Anti-Spyware.
e.g.. Controlling start up programs.
With Defender Disabled .... You can't get to this part of the program.
So can someone please clarify once and for all....
Are we Supposed to have Vista's Windows Defender ..... ON or OFF ?
Thank You!
Zana
Hi Tony
Thanks for answering my 360 v 2 and Defender question.
I know there are a lot of people confused about Vista's Windows Defender
Most people know they shouldn't have 2 Firewalls
It even warns you not to have two Firewalls in Vista's Security Centre.
But Vista's Security Centre says nothing about what to do with Defender if you have another Anti-Spyware.
I'm Sure .... My Question & Your Answer .... Will clear things up for a lot of people!
Defender couldn't catch a cold anyway!
Thanks Tony!
Zana
When Norton 360 v2 is installed, Windows Defender should be OFF. I hope this clarifies this issue for you. Thanks!
