The scan completes at 3,000 or 50,000 or 80,000. no errors. It tells me the scan has completed.
What do you mean how do i use security center? I don't do anything with it. Sometimes a buble will pop up with a red sheild saying you do not have antivirus or firewall.
in event viewer it says this: The Windows security center service was unable to establish event queries with wmi to monitor third party anti virus and firewall.
I have no problems with other anti virus nor with previous nortons.
Sometimes windows security center won't acknowledge the exsistence of Norton, although norton still says it is protecting, i still worry.
Also, for some reason Norton 360 does not always finish scanning, sometimes it will complete at 3,000 files, some times at 50,000 files and sometimes at 80,000 files.
Does anyone know what i could do?
Go into N360 and make sure your Auto Protect and Firewall are turned on. Try restarting and see if the error persists.
As far as the scans go, if you are receiving no errors during or after the scans, I wouldn't be too worried about this.
Yes, those were the answers I was after. As Johna says, if the scan completes, does worry about the numbers. It is something I am looking into - that is, when scans are full and when quick and when incremental. See if the problem with security center is resolve.
I am just a tad wondering about your comment "I have no problems with other anti virus..". You dont have a 2nd av loaded on this machine do you !?
All i have is Norton 360 and Ad-Aware. Ad-Aware works with other programs, and no problems like iam seeing with norton have occurred on the other programs. I tired Kaspersky, it is no longer on my machine.
And with the scans, if they don't go the full length what if some of the files further on have a virus?
Also, after i restart the security center warning does go away. Norton tells me that it is protecting and the boxes are checked even while the Security center is warning me of no anti virus or fire wall.
I do full scans only, i don't do shorter scans, unless norton does that by itself.
Note: I had to have windows re installed, so i installed norton 360 v2.0 from a cd bought at best buy on a clean install. It was having these issues, so installed Kaspersky, however Kaspersky was a little over protective. so i hoped Norton would work properly if i reinstalled, however, i am still having the same issues as before.
Have you contacted out Customer Support Team yet? I would recommend contacting them through the product’s Help & Support link. Or you can visit the below site to contact our free Customer Support:

If you have already done this and they could not resolve your issue, please let us know. If this is the case, please provide as many details as possible. Thanks!
You cannot schedule a comprehensive scan, you can only run it when you want. Norton 360 does do its own scans based on certain events but it terms of "regular" av scans they are always "quick".
Please try the following.
1. Go to control panel and open Administrative tools.
2. Click on services.
3. Go down to Windows Management Instrumentation.
4. Stop this service. Stop Security Center service too.
Set them to Automatically start.
5. Exit out of this area, to your desktop.
6. Right click Start, and choose Explore.
7. Go to c:\windows\system32\wbem\repository.
Delete this subdirectory ONLY.
Leave the others there.
8. Exit back to your desktop and reboot your computer (you might need to boot twice).
This will rebuild the deleted folder, and the database.
Once restarted, Windows Security Center should show the correct info.
Antivirus, and firewall, should now be recognized.
Some more details would be useful please.
How are you running WIndows Security centre. In what way is not acknowledging Norton.
When you say Norton does not complete scanning, but actually happens. Does it stop, is there an error report, or is it just that the number of files scanned is less than your believe exists.
