Can you login to Safemode and then try running the Norton removal tool?
Problem is that I can't even get to teh stage of downloading the Norton Removal Tool, so that I could then run it. The link below doesn't work for me.
Should I be using something other than IE to get to it - as it's a FTP site?

the link is valid... you might just copy it into the Start / Run dialog and see if that works. an ftp program may work, but i'd be concerned if you are unable to download NRT from IE as it indicates that something else is interferring with your connectivity (although 360 may have blocked your access - you could toggle it off and see if that permits the download).
