Norton 360 v3 is now available

Hi everyone,

Great news! Norton 360 v3 has been released! You can now purchase version 3 of Norton 360 directly from Symantec, or download a free trial version. The boxed version of this software will be released at a later date.

If you have a current subscription to Norton 360, you can update to the latest version by downloading the update (Norton 360 v3 Standard or Norton 360 v3 Premier). When you install the update, it will remove your previous Norton 360 product and apply the subscription information to Norton 360 v3.

Please read the following if you participated in the Norton 360 v3 Public Beta.

Before you install the released version, be sure to prepare your system by removing the beta version using one of the following methods:

-    If you created a backup of your system before installing the beta version, please restore your backup. This is the recommended method for complete removal of the beta software.

-    If you did not create a backup, please remove the beta product using the Norton Removal Tool. While the Norton Removal Tool doesn’t support some versions of the pre-release beta product, it can remove the majority of the beta installation.

There is also a Norton Recovery Tool for Norton 360 v3; the download and instructions are listed here. If you need support for Norton 360 v3, please visit the Top issues for Norton 360 v3 or contact our Customer Support team.

Safe Search feature in Norton Safe Web

We recently introduced a new security featured called Safe Search into Norton Safe Web, a Web site rating service now included in Norton 360 version 3.0 and Norton Internet Security 2009.  Safe Search is currently only available to U.S., UK and Canada users that purchased Norton 360 version 3.0 or Norton Internet Security 2009 in a retail store or online.

Safe Search. Safe Search is a new security feature of Norton Safe Web, a Web site rating service included in Norton 360 version 3.0 and Norton Internet Security 2009.

Norton Safe Web annotates Google, Yahoo! and Live.com search results with site safety ratings to warn users about sites that may pose a danger to them.  It also includes ecommerce safety ratings to help users make safer online shopping decisions.

Symantec partnered with Ask.com on Safe Search to offer users a safer search experience.  In addition to embedding Norton Safe Web’s site safety ratings directly into the search results, it automatically filters out dangerous sites by default.  Users have the option of changing the default settings to view the unfiltered results but will be warned before visiting sites that can infect their PCs.

Norton Toolbar, not a 3rd-party toolbar. The search box is a new security feature of the Norton Toolbar called Safe Search—not an Ask.com toolbar.  The Norton toolbar serves as the primary user interface for several key Web-based features, including: 1) Anti-phishing, 2) Identity Safe (allowing users to manage the passwords and login securely from the browser), and 3) Norton Safe Web.  Since all of these facilitate safe browsing activities, users need to be able to access them from their browser.

Install options. To ensure fast and easy installation, our default configurations are designed to provide maximum protection out of the box.  We chose to enable Safe Search by default because it is a core security feature of Norton Safe Web.  Search is a fundamental part of the online user experience and underlies most online activities.  By embedding the search box into the Norton toolbar, we make it easy for consumers to access and benefit from Safe Search.

Data privacy. If you use Safe Search, Symantec does not send any information other than the actual search query to Ask.com.  If you have disabled Safe Search, Symantec does not send any information to Ask.com.

Configuration options. We understand that users want to customize their toolbar settings and have made it easy to configure the Norton Toolbar.  To disable Safe Search, click on the Norton logo and uncheck “show search box.”  Although we do not recommend it, users can also hide the entire Norton Toolbar using standard toolbar controls—right clicking and de-selecting “Norton Toolbar.”
