Norton 360 v3 Sugestions

Do you think we could get a log viewer, similar to one for firewall in program files, for virus and spyware alerts? Thanks

It'd be nice to have a more indepth view in the network centre aswell.

I.E. if another machine in the network is at risk, what is the risk? what is the cause? also, which I'd love, a remote "fix now" would be awesome.

I like the fact that Norton 360 is not “bloated” but my suggestion would make it a stronger product IMHO.  I would like to see a web surfing cleaning type of module added to remove and shred your surfing sites and such.  Perhaps not as intense as Windows Washer by Webroot, but something in that arena.  I also hope the My Network issue of showing not protected and the intrusion detection being turned off after rebooting will be fixed too.   Do not get me wrong, I like this product very much, but it does neet some work to get rid of a couple bugs.

Hello all.  This is response to Adam Schepis' post re automatic scanning:

<<With regards to the automatic scanner we are always looking for better ways ... without interfering with your day to day work.  The idle scanner is just one way to accomplish this.  ... so that you don't have to worry about running scans manually and you never have the product eating up your computer resources for scanning while you are trying to get your work done.  However, as you point out, this model doesn't work for everyone.>>

No disrespect intended, Adam (once upon a time I was "in your shoes"), but while your scenario sounds great, my experience has been that it didn't work at all.  Plus, I like to save energy so am not happy to leave my PC running for the hour or more it needs every time something runs--it all adds up :->

Here's a suggestion I haven't come across yet: can you guys please either speed up the scan and backup routines or publish higher system requirements so folks like me, who don't yet have a huge, lightspeed system, don't buy N360 v.2 only to be driven crazy by this.

The many issues I've had with N360 are amply described by others in various threads (scans run constantly, ccSvcHst issues, zombie processes, et al.).  Here's some context for my comments:  Everything is set to manual but something still revs up ccSvcHst.exe and hogs resources often enough to be a serious problem.  N360 is fully updated, all scans clean; have uninstalled, scrubbed, reinstalled in Safe Mode.  According to N360 specs, my system has enough juice that this shouldn't happen--Dell Dimension with 768 MB physical memory, 1.96 GB available virtual memory, 37+ GB free space on the root directory drive (defragged and optimized regularly because of my digital painting work and heavy text editing), 1.6 GHz; OS is Windows XP Home SP3+.

In other threads users with much bigger, faster systems reported the same problems, so it seems I'm doomed until I get a new workhorse.  Or return to SystemWorks, Save&Restore, etc.  While I wouldn't mind trading a little of the excellent speed I previously enjoyed for increased protection, this is insane.

Thanks for listening!

terrafax,

thanks for the feedback.  Performance is definitely one of our key focuses.  If you have seen any of the recent articles surrounding the Norton products in 2009 then you will see that the engineering teams have done some really impressive things to overhaul NIS NAV and N360 and improve the performance.  When N360 v3.0 comes out it should be much less painful for users like yourself.

Your comments on the idle scanning and saving energy are really helpful and i'm sure that there are lots of users just like you who aren't comfortable leaving a computer running 24 hours a day.  Hopefully we can work a solution for users like yourself into future version of the product.

Regards,

Adam

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your message.  I'm exploring further possibilities of non-N360 reasons for my system slowdown and plan to avail myself of an offer for Norton PC Power Boost service.  Will hang in there with N360 and look forward to v.3.

Best regards to the development teams, who no doubt are working like beavers!  My days as a designer and user-needs analyst were long ago but I remember the balancing act of time, performance, etc.

Adam,  per your comment;

"In my experience, file-based backup tends to be more understandable for novice users and therefore allows more of our customers to be successful with backup. "

English... like the full file format of V1?... where I could navigate to the back up drive and find files stored in like format as the source!

PLEASE do not forget in V3 while I know your looking for KISS options, data is first about accessibility - to a novice archival format data storage does not offer simple accessibility.

YES, while it's good for security, data storage formats should be an option in V3

Hello

The last time, I had installed NIS 2008 on my PC. This week, I've installed Norton 360 V2.0 and I'm happy. But one feature, I didn't found and missed it. The AddOn-Pack with the Spam-Feature is installed. In NIS 2008 I can  classify the mails manual. There is a option, where I can see the scanning mails and manual change the classification. In Norton 360 V2.0 I don't can change this classification. Mails, which Norton 360 has classify as Spam, I don't can classify manual as "clean". Can this feature comming soon?

PS: Sorry for my bad english, but it's a long time since I had english in school ;-)

I wish 360 v3.0 will build full AntiBot function or some ThreatFire technology to improve system security

Fighting all new threat even it has been  Perform...

Kaspersky 2009 will get the high rang in leak-test is because they have Intelligent HIPS

Kaspersky 2009 have the whitelist form Bit9 and some powerful application rule in HIPS

....so KIS8 have same silent firewall and smart HIPS....and get high rang in leak-test

additionally...

I wish can build AD-Blocker .... Like the Adblock Plus is free in Firefox (Known Adblock Plus subscriptions )

This is powerfull tool for everone to view web
