We are helping a friend who is not computer-savvy. His 360 was due to expire while he was gone, so we took our newly purchased (3-user) version and installed it on his computer. It never asked for a product key, which we assume was because he had already installed the downloaded version which he got as an update with his V4. (We don't know whether he did this or not, but assume he did, since we DID get asked for the product key on the other two computers which we hadn't bothered to update to v5.) Now his v5 will expire while WE are gone and unable to help him, and we don't know what message he will get.
If it just asks for a product key, we can provide him with that. If we have to uninstall 360 v5 and then reinstall, that will be more of a problem and he'll have to wait for us to return, meanwhile running without full protection. Does anyone know what will happen, or what message he will receive?
Thanks for any information.
Yes, I have already activated -- I wanted to see what happened and why he didn't get asked for the activation key. (It's only a couple of weeks that we lost, so it's no big deal.) But before, he has always shared the key with us and just entered it when we loaded the product, without accessing our account.
Maybe if we wait till it's expired, can we just enter the product key then?
(It's probably a moot point anyway, since he's gone now, and we'll be gone when he gets back, so he's going to have to wait for us anyway! We just wanted to tell him what to do, if we could figure it out!)
Thanks for the quick answer.
When the subscription expires all protection ceases -- it does not continue on a frozen definitions set. I hope you have some ay of leaving the KEY for him and telling him he must use it right away. I think he will need to click on Subscribe on N360 and then should find a way of entering the KEY -- possibly clicking on something like Enter an existing KEY ...
Tell him to come here if he's stuck but not to use the PC to access the internet until he activates.

In which case your installation is entered as one of the activations in his MyNortonAccount .,......
