Hi just bought a Lenovo Laptop Windows 7, Home Premium edition. I had 1 license left on my Norton 360 and was going to put it on this PC. I first had Mcafee on the laptop and I removed that and went to my account for Norton and downloaded the the last license I had left. It ran for a while, then I noticed after a Reboot - it was no longer running. I tried clicking on every icon and program link but nothing. I had someone from Norton last night dial into my PC - they ran the eraser, and reinstalled the programmed. It seemed fine when he hung up and it actually stayed running after a few reboots. Now, it is not running again. I tried to wait last night for another session - but it got to late. Anyone got any suggestions what could be the problem? I asked him why it did or does this - he said some thing about connecting with the server sometimes has issues. I will re-call tonite and try again I was just hoping someone here might can explain to me what they think the issue is. Is it my PC or Norton 360. I have never had a problem like this before installing it in a new PC
Hi bubl8015,
If you did not run the McAfee removal tool after uninstalling McAfee, I would suggest that you do so. I would actually uninstall Norton first, run the MCPR, and then reinstall Norton to get a clean installation.
i didnt run the mcafee eraser - i just went to the unistall program mode...what happens the program is still left behind and that corrupts norton from running?? shoud i have norton dial in and do it for me to make sure it gets done right?
Hi bubl8015,
Please go to Control Panel > Programs & Features and see if there is a program named RapidBoot installed. If so, please unsinstall it, reboot and see if Norton is working again prior to calling Norton for assistance.
Also it will not hurt to run the McAfee removal tool as SendofJive suggested.
I went to the control panel "no readyboost" installed - This is a G780 wondering if they found another way to hide it somewhere. I had 2 people try to fix it last night till midnight (yeah sleepy today) was waiting for a Master Technician who never came on ..
They did the same as all of them have done - run eraser, unistalled norton, reinstalled - runs with updates fine and even first scan - I reboot then Norton becomes DEAD! I will have to call again I guess - any suggestions would help
SOJ asked,

Hi bubl8015,
Just a quick double check - you did look for RapidBoot - not readyboost?
If no "RapidBoot" plese try the following procedure. Please note, you havemade no mention of running the Norton Removal Tool- this tool will remove any remanents of the prior install of N 360 and provide a clean install.
If you use Identity Safe for your Logins, please back it up (export) the data so it can be Restored (Imported) after you install a fresh copy of N 360.
Plese remove the copy of N 360 you have installed, using the Control Panel uninstall via Programs & Features.
Download and run the Norton Remvoal Tool once and reboot after it is completed. The NRT can be found here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?docid=kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us&lg=english&ct=united+states&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home&entsrc=redirect_pubweb
Download a fresh copy and install:
www.norton.com/n360s_6 (Standard Edition)
or
www.norton.com/n360p_6 (Premiere Edition)
Once installation is complete, open N 360 and manually Run LiveUpdate as many times as necessary for it to respond "no more updates found". If a reboot is requested, reboot and then continue to Run LiveUpdate until it responds "no more updates found" and then reboot one last time.
Once totally updated, don't forget to Restore/Import your ID Safe data.
Please keep us posted.
It seems like someone had a problem similar to this before and thee was something to do with a fingerprint key that caused it??
OK - here is the whole story - This PC is brand new - Lenovo G780. It came with Macafee 1 month free subscription. I unistalled Macafee using the control panel. Then I logged into my account (Norton) had 1 license available and clicked the download key there in my account. Everything was fine - I ran the Live Updater - ran a scan actually. Then being a new Pc and it needing to do updates, it rebooted but the Norton didn't load. Actually the Norton widget loaded but was dead - clicking on it did nothing. Called Norton - they dialed into PC - Used the Norton Unistaller and removed Norton 360 - then reinstalled it. I - thinking it was fixed thanked them - but guess what - a few hours later - it quit loading again. So, I used my 1 key recovery and put my PC back in the factory state - this wiped everythign off my pc. I then went and registered my Macafee (as a forum told to do this before you unistall it) then I downloaded Macafees Eraser and ran that - and proceeded to again reinstall Norton. Same Problem ! This time again I had Norton dial in try and fix it - no luck. There is no program loaded in my control called Rapid anything. I think that this version 6.2.1.5 may not work on this Laptop - I may need an older version. I even called Lenovo and of course they couldn't help. I guess now the Case Manager is working on it. So, I have to wait for a call from them - unless any one has any other helps. So this Pc has done at least 8 unistalls with Unistalled and Reinstall correctly. No Luck. I even have done 4 complete system reinstalls - wiping off everything on my PC. i do not want to do that again.

Prior to installing Norton, McAffe should have been removed via the Conrtol Panel and the McAfee Removal Tool should have been run. This is normal practice (remove the AV product via Control Panle and run the products removal tool for the installed product prior to installing a different AV product). There are many folks unaware of this, so don;t feel like we are picking on you.
Everything was fine - I ran the Live Updater - ran a scan actually.
I do not quite understand this comment - LiveUpdate is different from running a scan - unless you are referring to the Quick Scan which runs automatically after a virus definition update.

Do you by chance have any idea how they (Norton I assume you are talking about) removed your Norton? There are different methods to remove the program - some remove and reinstall a new copy sutomatically, others remove it and there is a tool to run to remove any left over items from the last install, reboot and then install a fresh copy.

OK - no need to register McAfee unless you are going to reinstall it - however, it still needed to be removed via the Control Panel prior to running the Removal Tool, but hopefully just running the removal tool did it's job.
Same Problem ! This time again I had Norton dial in try and fix it - no luck.
You mean when you attempted to run LiveUpdate it would run and then Norton would not open again after a reboot?
There is no program loaded in my control called Rapid anything.
Good that is one less thing to try to correct.
I think that this version 6.2.1.5 may not work on this Laptop - I may need an older version.
There is nothing wrong with this version being capable of working with your system. No way do you need an older version.
I even called Lenovo and of course they couldn't help. I guess now the Case Manager is working on it. So, I have to wait for a call from them - unless any one has any other helps.
Understand Lenovo was no help - are you talking about a case manager from Norton?
So this Pc has done at least 8 unistalls with Unistalled and Reinstall correctly. No Luck. I even have done 4 complete system reinstalls - wiping off everything on my PC. i do not want to do that again.
Do you relieze everytime you reset to factory settings you are once again installing the McAfee and it needs to be removed again, prior to installing Norton?
While you are waiting for a call back:
If still shown as installed in Control Panel > Programs & Features, uninstall McAffee.
Reboot and download and run the McAfee Removal Tool.
If still shown as installed remove N360 via Control Panel > Programs & Features.
Download and run the Norton Remvoal Tool and reboot after it is completed. The NRT can be found here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?docid=kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us&lg=english&ct=united+states&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home&entsrc=redirect_pubweb
Download a fresh copy and install:
www.norton.com/n360s_6 (Standard Edition)
Once installation is complete, open N 360 and manually Run LiveUpdate as many times as necessary for it to respond "no more updates found". If a reboot is requested, reboot and then continue to Run LiveUpdate until it responds "no more updates found" and then reboot one last time.
Please keep us posted as to how far you got and if anything changed.
Yank: I did exactly what you asked me to do, i unistalled macafee in control panel, ran the macafee removal tool, then check the control panel - no norton 360 or any norton product there - clicked on your link to down load the standard version of norton 360. It installed correctly - ran the live updater until it said restart now or later - I clicked to try and download more but said need to install updates during reboot - after reboot - IT DID LOAD AND I WAS AMAZED - So, I went back to live update and it did another update - asked again to reboot so I did - NOW, AFTER THIS REBOOT - NORTON BOMBS OUT - ONLY THING THAT LOADS IS THE NORTON WIDGET BUT BY CLICKING ON IT NOTHING WORKS - I CLICK ON THE ICON ON WINDOWS NOTHING HAPPENS. NOTE: on my pc is a program called LENOVO SOLUTION CENTER. IT SAYS UNDER THE DEVICE MANAGER IN THIS CENTER: I AM MISSING 3 DRIVERS: SYMANTEC IRON DRIVER, BHDrvx64, & NORTON 360 SETTINGS MANAGER - MAYBE THESE HAVE SOMTHING TO DO WHY NORTON IS FAILING TO LOAD. THANKS Dave
Hi bubl8015,
Even though there ws no N 360 or Norton product shown in Programs & Features - I still wanted you to run the Norton Remvoal Tool , as it would clean up any left over remanents of prior installs.
So now I am asking you to ninstall N360 via Control Panel > Programs and Features ( if it exsists) If ti is threre - reboot after theuninsatll. . Then run the Norton Removal Tool (link in the my above post) and reboot after running it.
Then install N 360 from my link above and run liveupdate (rebooting everytime it suggests to reboot) Do not wait until later to reboot or attempt to download another Live Update until you have rebooted ss requested. The rebooot, rerun of Liverupdate sequence is important and needs to be done when requested to insure the updates are installed in the proper order.
Your last efforrt you did everything as asked - except run the Norton Removal Tool - if you did run it and juist forgot to tell us - let us know that also.
I will have to look into the " Lenovo Solution Center and the "missing driver and manager in Norton - as it reports.
If you could do what I have asked abor while I am looking it may save some time.
I will try it again - the reason i didn't do a norton uninstall program eraser run - was because my PC has a One Key recovery program and I had run this and ersased everything off my hard drive and put it in factory state - of course I thought Norton was not on the factory state - just Macafee-
I will redo everything again now this time with the Norton Unistaller because now it is installed...
Thanks i will keep you posted
OK - I did eveything step by step by step. I was able to get it to a few live updates - and it rebooted once and that time it loaded and ran. I was able I think to get a few more updates - but the last reboot - Norton Is not loading - it is now dead.
Now what ?? I am going to try another dial in session and see what they say this time

Did you do another dail-in session? Any positive results?
Have you run the MCAfee removal tool everytime you did a factory reset? With the missing drivers Lenovo reports) it sounds like a corrupt install of N 360 - which could be caused by McAfee left overs.
Please verify - are you using Norton 360 Standard editon or N 360 Premiere edition?
