Norton 360 version 3.0 can't remove adware.gen

I am getting ad windows popping up at least once per hour, they are called " ads by gooochi" . I can’t see why norton 360 did not block this in the first place. My product is up to date, I have disabled system restore, deleted windows temp files, and ran a full virus scan in normal and safe mode. Norton can not remove this adware program. Any ideas on how I can get this out of my PC?.

Welcome, glenn2625. It sounds like something that MBAM should be able to take care of. Just download, install, update, and run a full scan with the free version of Malwarebytes Antimalware and post back here with the results. If MBAM doesn’t work we can try something else but it’s a good place to start.  MBAM

Hi Glenn

I would suggest running a full scan in safe mode, empty all your windows temp files and empty your recycle bin while you are in safe mode. I would also disable system restore while you are doing this.

Thanks, Turbo, Mbam worked great. The adware is gone now. Guess it just goes to show you that no one program can always get the job done. I am just disappointed that Norton did not stop this in the first place, or remove it. All Norton did was try and stop it from launching every hour, which resulted in a very slow PC during that time.

Thanks

Glenn

You're welcome, Glenn. Thanks for coming back and letting us know how it went, very glad to hear your issue has been resolved.

Thank you so much. I had the same problem and it appears that your solution is working. I haven’t the problem reoccur yet. Norton wasn’t any help. They wanted me to pay them over $100 to have a specialist fix the problem!!!

rzriege, very glad to hear that MBAM helped you. On those rare occasions when malware does manage to get by Norton, the free, on demand version of MBAM is a great program to have on your PC. Just keep it on your PC and scan with it once in a while to make sure your PC is still clean.

Hi

And don't forget to update MBAM before each use.

Thanks guys, I will definitely update and keep it on my computer. It’s always nice when you can get something for free and it actually works without wanting more money. Again thanks!!
