Norton 360 version 6 UI concerns

Here is a copy of a message I posted in the Norton 360 area.  It was suggested that I let my opinions be known here:

Hi all,

What did the developers do to the version 6 user interface?  It's horrible.  The product is now more difficult and cumbersome than ever to use.

1 - At the version 5 home screen all I had to do was hover over an icon and get the selections below it and also the date of the last update.  Then I could click on something I wanted to do.  Now I have to click the icon to be presented with the selections.  Why the extra mouse click?  The way the little window expands is ugly too BTW.

2 - Why are scans and tasks separate now?  In the past all I had to do was select a custom scan and in it I could do a live update, full scan, regsitry cleanup, etc.  Now I have to do 2 separate operations.  This is unnecessarily time consuming and again, involves more steps.

3 - Why isn't there a "shutdown computer upon completion" option during a scan anymore?  Now I can't start a complete scan then go to sleep or leave to go to work or whatever.  I have to wait for the scan to end then shut down the machine manually.

4 - The network map is still buried in the settings menu.  I don't know why it was removed from the main screen in version 5.  I check my network pretty often.  Since version 5 I've had to do 2 steps instead of one.  And now not only is the network map icon still missing from the main screen but an advertisement for Norton Mobile Security is there where you could put the network map icon.  As a paying customer who bought my software I resent seeing ads in it, especially on the main screen.

5 - Why do I have to activate the Activity Map on the main screen?  How do I de-activate it?  Can it even be de-activated?  If not, why not just automatically activate it without me having to do an extra mouse click?

6 - The graphic elements and text on most of the screens is too big.  The icons, status bars, etc. are gigantic compared to version 5.  It looks childish.  Why?

I can't understand why all of these extra steps were put into the new version and why the interface looks like children's wooden ABC blocks.  Can anyone help me on this?  The only thing I can think of is that Symantec is trying to bring the product into compliance with Windows 8 and all of its touch screen interaction and devices with smaller screens.

Does anyone else feel the way I do? and if any Symantec people are reading this, what's up?

Thanks,

Rocky

Couldn't have said it better, Rocky.  Everything you said is absolutely correct.  I would just add that the mustard explosion on the main page gives me a migraine.

So many windows ...

I'm just posting again to say that after almost 2 weeks I couldn't take the new interface anymore and just downgraded back to version 5 today.  I'm happy to see that other people share my sentiments about this.  Hopefully the engineers at Symantec will consider our experiences when it comes to designing future releases.

2013 beta & Norton 360 v7 beta is already released

I'm with @norroc on just about everything he said.

Especially annoying is the fact that the virus scan and tuneup tasks have been separated in version 6. I do a weekly manual N360 operation that includes the scan, tuneup functions, and backup: I set it to run overnight and come back in the morning to see it all finished. As far as I can tell, this is not possible with version 6, I have to do one or the other but not both in the same series.

Good thing I only "upgraded" to v6 on my laptop, my main desktop PC is still intact with v5.

So, I have a product suggestion, and a question.

Suggestion: For the next release of N360 (version 8 or whatever), PLEASE bring back the option to do all of these operations in one fell swoop. While you're at it, get rid of those simpleminded kindergarten-block tiles in the new UI and bring back the sleek, elegant version 5 screen.

Question: In the meantime, how do I go back to version 5? Is there a simple way, like the method for rolling back a Windows driver, that doesn't involve massive uninstalling and re-installing of the N360 software? In my experience (I got started with N360 v3) , this is an error-prone, white-knuckle process which it is best to keep to a minimum number of times done.

Thanks very much.
