Norton 360 will not let me enter the last number of my product key!

I forgot about 0 (zero)

Here are the numbers that are not valid: 1,5,0

These are the letters: A,E,I.L,N,O,S,V,Z

Dave

Hi Dave,

I do have two V's. What should I do?

I'm very sorry, that was my mistake.  V is good, that should have been a U as not valid.

If your sure you have a 25 character key and your entering it correctly, I think you should contact support through the chat link in post #10.

Usually the mistakes that I make with the keys are because either I am reading the letter wrong or I'm using the wrong key.

(sometimes you get a free version of online backup or norton utilities in a retail package).

edit-  Not being able to enter the last number would mean that either the last number is wrong (you said thats not the case).

Or, by mistake an invalid character was entered earlier, so the "last number" is no longer the 25'th character and thats why the button does not become active.

Hey Dick,

You are right I think but I'm not sure about the order of things.

I purchased 360 Version 5 cd about three weeks ago for 5 PC's. When I tried to install it on the first PC after having used nothing but NIS for years, it wouldn't accept that last number of the product key even after removing the old NIS and then with the Norton removal tool. I tried repeatedly, not using caps or dashes and rebooting. Then my NIS expired.

So, after I had tried everything I knew to do and everything you suggested, I downloaded 360 version 6 (apparently that came out since I bought version 5), just to tide me over until either someone out here came up with a solution or I had time to call Norton support. When I called support before I was on hold so long my hair turned gray........I can see why you recommend chat. :catfrustrated:

Since I've had the cd about 3 weeks or so I'm not sure they'll take it back now. So I would like to use it if possible.

I wonder why I had no trouble at all downloading 360 vs.6 but can't install 360 vs.5? Do you think it's a defective product key?

Thanks,

Christy

Christy,

I'm going to ignore the messages after the one I'm responding to so I don't confuse me.

Let's start with that PS that was running NIS. How did you or did you uninstall NIS before trying to install 360? If you did only a control panel uninstall or nothing there is likely a problem with leftovers from NIS when you installed 360. That could be the cause of the problem there.

Solution: Download the Norton Removal Tool from here:  http://www.symantec.com/nrt/

Run it, reboot and run it one more time. Reboot and then download and install v6 from here: http://www.norton.com/n360s_6/

Your v5 key should be able to activate it. That will be the acid test.

Off topic question:  Is your operating system fully updated?

I don't know where you purchased your copy of v5 but you might want to take a few minutes to chat with customer support and have them verify that you do have a valid key. We have seen reports of used keys being resold. We are also aware that all of this has humans involved and none of them is perfekt. :smileywink:

I wouldn't worry about taking it back just yet. Norton has a solid refund policy which you can use if we can't get you up and running right before the 60 days comes to pass.

For some peace of mind for both of us please put the CD aside and let's work with the download versions. It is possible that the CD is defective. That's easy to overcome. Our only interest right now is your key and getting it to work.

Hi Christy,

Not sure if this will help. Did you try entering the product key in a notepad and then copy and paste in the activation window?

Christy49,

Are you using Norton 360 Standard Edition or Norton 360 Premier Edition? The CD cover may show if it is Norton 360 Premier Edition. Probably, you may have purchased Norton 360 Premier Edition, and trying to use that Product Key for Standard Edition. The Product Keys for Norton 360 Standard and Premier Edition are not interchangable. Please verify and let us know if that's your case.

Thanks,

HarryP
