Norton 360's Sonar Protection

Hello to you knowledgeable people.

Is Norton 360's Sonar Protection part of the Auto Protection function or a separate one?

Thanks.

Hi BarneyBear, and welcome. Here is some info from the help page regarding Sonar features.

Symantec Online Network for Advanced Response (SONAR) provides real-time protection against threats and proactively detects unknown security risks on your computer.

SONAR identifies emerging threats based on the behavior of applications. SONAR identifies threats quicker than the traditional signature-based threat detection techniques. SONAR detects and protects you against malicious code even before virus definitions are available through LiveUpdate.

Symantec recommends that your computer remains connected to Internet to get the real-time protection against threats and proactively detects unknown security risks on your computer.

SONAR automatically blocks and removes high-certainty threats. Norton Internet Security notifies you when high-certainty threats are detected and removed. SONAR provides you the greatest control when low-certainty threats are detected.

If you go to Settings/Computer/real Time Protection in the Norton UI, and click on the ? to the right of the Sonar Protection tab, it will show you the available options for this feature.

It IS part of your Automatic Protection.

SONAR is a component of Auto-Protect.  It can be independently disabled while still leaving the rest of the Auto-Protect features enabled.  However, turning off Auto-Protect itself will also turn off SONAR, which can only run when Auto-Protect is active.
