Norton 360v6 Norton DNS Web Content Filtering Policy

I posted a problem on this forum a few days ago regarding Norton 360 v6. During a Quick or Full System Scan all would be well until the program looked for Flush DNS. This just caused the scan to hang and even if you left it for hours the program failed to complete.

The advice given was that this problem was known and to get around it I had to follow a supplied link, read instructions and change some stored information to 198-153-192-50 also 198-153-194-50

After doing this all seemed to be fine. All scans were run, everything completed, no treats were found. I posted an update and my thanks to the forum.

However it appears that by making these changes I now have a Web Content Filtering Policy which tells me Norton DNS is not allowing me to access sites that I have been using for years without any problem at all.

Can anyone advise me how to sort this or is it time to remove thie product from my system.

Hi ItsMeGizmo,

Norton DNS uses different server addresses for different filtering options.  To use the service with security filtering only (no content filtering), you should change the last number in your addresses to 40 instead of 50.  I believe the scan hang issue has been fixed, so the workaround is no longer necessary.  You can continue to use Norton DNS or revert back to your earlier settings.

Thank you for this information, it makes perfect sense. Problem I have now is that someone sent me a link with how to access the area that needed changing in the first place complete with the what I had to change and where. It was indicated in a yellow box but I cant find my original post to back track to that reply. Any ideas.

Hello again, please ignore the first message for further help. Its all sorted now. I just worked my way back to the original settings and as you said changed the final number from 50 to 40 on both lines and all now seems to be back to normal. Thanks again for all your help. Take care.

You're welcome.
