Norton Account Login using Windows Hello Face ID can be setup but does not work for login

Currently, you can setup a Passkey using Windows Hello Face ID to login to Norton, but Norton website treats this metho as a Passkey and not a Windows Hello Face ID Passkey. This means if you try to login to your Norton account online and use Windows Hello Face ID, the camera comes on, but the Norton website prompts for you to insert you Passkey which is not the correct method for authenticating the Windows Hello Face ID Passkey and you have to cancel and try another method. If you only have Face ID as your two-factor login method, DO NOT since you may not be able to login. I spent more than 1/2 hour trying to communicate this to Norton via chat, but I don’t think they got the message.

How do you create a Passkey for a Norton account? I’d like to do so but can’t see any way to create a Passkey.

I can see the ability to add a security key, but this is a physical device different from a Passkey.

You need to purchase a Passkey device like the Yubico Security Key NFC that I use. This creates the passkey for the appropriate account login. The device is tied to a single pc when it is setup. Many website logins are starting to use this method instead of passwords for increased security.

UPDATE: I was able to add a passkey of the Windows Hello type or 3rd party password manager type just by following the prompts.

However, another issue is that these passkeys or security keys are only a secondary method, i.e. used for two factor authentication. You still need to login with a password or a one-time code. Passkeys can’t be used as a primary login method.

FYI!! Windows Hello Face is not available in Windows 10 Home or Pro unless you have an active camera. Are you using Windows 11? Officially, Norton accounts cannot be logged into with passkeys of any sort.
