I have just upgraded Norton Internet Security to the 2011 version, which i believe is supposed to be compatible with Outlook 2010. However, All the options under the "Norton" tab in Outlook 2010 except for "Open Norton AntiSpam" are grayed out no matter which folder i go to in Outlook. I am not very sure how Norton AntiSpam works but I don't think that those options are supposed to always be grayed out. I am running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit with Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 32-bit version 14.0.4760.1000 and Norton Internet Security 2011. Is something wrong with my Norton AntiSpam?

I have the exact same problem. I'm running Windows 7 x64 and Office 2010 32 bit. I have the Norton tab in Outlook but all of the options except "Open Norton Antispam" are grayed out. I had been told that when NIS 2011 was released it would work with the 32 bit version of Office 2010, obviously I was told incorrectly. Does anyone have a solution for this problem or is it time to start looking for a different security program?
I too have the same proplem. I have MS Office Pro 2010 (32-bit), Win 7 HP 64-bit and NIS 2011 installed.
All my NISpam buttons, other than Open Norton Spam) are, and remain, grayed out. :-(
Sorry. Ignore my last. It does work. It works if I receive mail through the default folders in MS2010 but if I recieve an email through my Hotmail account (via outlook connector) in Outlook then the SPAM options do not work. I guess it has somethign to do with the ports used in receiving the mail?
I too just installed NIS2011 and I too am experiencing numerous problems with the AntiSpam feature within MS Outlook2010 (32Bit). The installed OS is Windows7 Pro 32Bit. When I press the "New Email" button on the Outllook Home Ribbon, I get an Error Dialog Box Titled "Custom UI Runtime Error in Norton AntiSpam Outlook Plugin". The error box contains a large Red "X" followed by the text "The call to GetCustomUI(0) for RibbonID "Microsoft.Outlook.Mail.Compose" failed. Below that are two buttons "OK" and "OK to All". At the bottom of the dialog box is a hyperlink text string stating "Was this information helpful?"
I tried disabling the AntiSpam feature within the main settings, but that causes numerous errors when Outlook starts. Under that situation I see that the addin remains active within Outlook2010 even though it has been turned off in the main NIS settings section and there is no way within Outlook (that I can see) to disable it. The Addin Options button when the AntiSpam module is selected states that there are not options available... Good work guys... Do you actually test this stuff before you release it on an unsuspecting public?
Obviously this first wide release is not yet ready for prime time... Reverting to NIS2010 (which BTW works perfectly with the same exact system configuration) until I hear them blow "all clear siren"...

Hi Myrm,
This is correct. NIS only supports the standard ports 25 & 110 for email scanning. Just so you know, the email scanning is an added layer on top of auto-protect. Even though the email will not be scanned independantly if using something other than the standard ports, all email will be checked as it is saved to your hard drive.
You are still protected with your Hotmail account also.

Your comment about ports it interesting because AOL uses port 143 (993 for SSL) for incoming mail and port 587 (465 for SSL) for outgoing mail. Gmail uses port 993 for incoming mail can port 587 or 467 for outgoing mail. Those are the two mail services that I use. How do we make it work with those ports? I'm sure many people use these two mail services.
I don't know if Symantec plans to add support for these additional ports or not. I suspect that at some point they will but that is only a guess on my part and this did not come from Symantec.
What I want to stress however is that whether the separate email scanning is supported in your configuration or not, you are still fully protected by NIS. Everything gets checked by NIS auto-protect as it is saved to your hard disk.
The email scanning is just an added piece of mind on top of the core protection NIS already provides through other means.

It's nice being protected but it's also nice having Norton filter out a lot of the junk! Something it's not currently doing but should be. Adding a couple of additional ports shouldn't be an issue at all. Besides the two mail systems I'm talking about are some of the largest out there, it's not like they are insignificant players in the field.
It's very disappointing to purchase a system and not have it capable of performing what it is intended to.
BTW, if you turn on anti-spam, but TURN OFF the Norton toolbar in Outlook (right click toolbar, Customize, uncheck Norton), you can at least work error message free until they fix this.
I have this exact message and problem too. Never had this in 2010, but the 2011 version is causing this. I uninstalled using the norton uninstaller tool, and reinstalled to have the same problem repeat. And to answer the other question that was asked of this poster, I have never Beta tested for any Norton product. I would love to know of a fix for this... I can't reply or create a message without this exact message appearing. And it doesn't matter what I do to the settings. I uninstall and Outlook is perfectly fine. Oh, and I'm using Outlook 2007 on Win 7 Pro.
