Yes, both are compatible with SP3 (I'm using it now on three of my XP SP3 machines).

Go to the Symantec site and download the trial version of NAV 2009.

LINK

Then install it. It will pick up the key to NAV 2008 automatically and you will be all set.

Note: the key will only carry over within the same family. NAV 2008 ==> NAV 2009 or NIS 2008 ==> NIS 2009

That is correct. Another link to use is http://www.norton.com/nav09

Install that on your system, and it will apply your current NAV 2008 subscription to NAV 2009.

I may be overlooking something, but it would be nice if Symantec would put the option on the website again to update whatever version software you are running, whether it be NAV, or NIS, or whatever to the latest program release version of that program.  I think a long time ago, if you looked long enough, you could find links to do this.  But, for the past year or so, only way I have been able to update to the latest released version is to download the trial and go from there.

We do provide the Norton Update Center, from which you can select the product and version to update. Is this what you mean? Thanks!

No.  All that does is gives you the option of updating to the newest version with a price tag.  I’m talking about updating to the newest version when you already have a valid subscription.

But when you download the trial version, you are accomplishing exactly what you set out to do.  Actually, the trial version seems to have a double function:  try it if you aren’t already a subscriber to that product family; upgrade with it if you already are a subscriber to that product family.  Since the download is hassle-free (you need only provide your email address), I don’t see any problem here.

When you install the product from the previous link, it will uninstall the previous version while keeping your subscription information on the system and applying your remaining subscription time to Norton AntiVirus 2009. Have you tried the link, downloaded and installed the latest version? Was there a problem?
