Yesterday afternoon I found that Outlook was continually getting errors when trying to send and receive emails. This is an example:
Task 'PlusNet Judy - Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'
My initial assumption was that this was a problem with my ISP, but further checking has confirmed that this problem is caused by Norton. If I turn off "Email/ Message Scanning" then the problems go away.
Since I have had NAV 2009 installed on my system for well over a year now (and with Email scanning on) it looks like this has been caused by a recent update.
Other threads have suggested that there may be issues if non-standard ports are used, but that is not the case here - PlusNet use port 110 for POP3 and 25 for SMTP.
For now I have disabled Email scanning to fix this problem - although periodically it turns itself back on, which is very annoying. (For the record I have set it to disable "until system restart and I did NOT restart before it re-enabled itself). However, in the long term I really want to turn email scanning back on since I know that it does trap infected emails if they are missed by my ISP...
I am running Windows XP Home with SP3 and at the moment my NAV version is 16.7.2.11. I was able to send and receive email until about midday yesterday (16th January, GMT).
Since this seems to be a bug in a recent update can anyone tell me if the forthcoming 16.8.xxx update will fix this? If so, can I force NAV to get the update now?
