Norton Antivirus 2013 Icon in a system tray

Yeah and my laptop has 2 yr old Nvidia driver, and my PC has the very latest beta drivers for my EVGA 590GTX card, same problem on both machines! running win 7 64bit

Same problem:

Windows 7 SP1  x  64-bit

ATI Radeon HD 5670 Ver. 8.982.0 (latest)

And until the icon does not appear, it' s impossible to open the Vault. If you try to open the Vault you get the warning to reboot the system....

Installed on 2 machines (W7-64) with the same results. No internet access till the icon appears, this could take up to 5 minutes.

Wow, I hope norton is not going back to the bad old day's like in 2004-08

For now I am going back to 2012 that runs great .

I'm also having the same issue.  I installed NIS 2013 almost as soon as it was released and did not have an issue with the Tray Icon loading.  My install was an update install, was running NIS 2012.  I have always set my boot time protection to aggressive, and did so immediately after installing the new version.  The symptoms did not appear until more recently.  Running on a relatively fresh install of Win7 SP1 Home Premium 64 bit, have latest Java update and the recent flash updates also.

If investigating video hardware/drivers currently running on NVidia Geforce 8800 GTS 512MB with 306.23 drivers, did not install the Nvidia updater nor 3D Vision Controller and Drivers.  I know I was running beta video drivers upon the original installation of NIS 2013.

Edit:  wow just realized my sig was really out of date.

Same Issue Here:

NIS 2013 running on win 7 x64 Home edition installed on a 60gb SSD. Up to date.

Updated from NIS 2012 after updating my subscription. Uninstalled 2012, restarted and installed 2013. Slow startup with 2013 compared to 2012 which loaded instantaniously before at startup. Takes 2 mins or so to load. Cant access internet until system tray icon appears. I think it may have afftected when I plug in a USB drive as well, making them slow to mount and register with the system.

Have downgraded to 2012 as I backed up the install files, until this problem is resolved.

Same problem here.  Running Win 7 64 bit Home Premium.  Norton IS 2013 system tray icon does not appear for several minutes after boot up.  Even after it appears, it is several more minutes before I can open either Chrome or Internet Explorer and open the Identity Safe vault.  This causes a significant delay in my accessing web sites after boot and I'm not happy about it.

  • Not being able to OPEN Internet Explorer until the tray icon GUI shows is a pretty serious issue on Symantec's part. :smileymad:

Norton Developers should take note:

--------------------------------------------------

Clean install of Windows 7 x64 Service pack 1 and NIS 2013 and NIS icons appears straight away on boot (But some times red cross on it).

But as soon as you update windows ... this issue with icon not appearing and we cannot use IE etc. starts.

I tried that last night two times ... same results.

.

I've been following this thread waiting to try 2013, people say IE doesn't start until icon shows - how about Firefox or Chrome?  or how about IE with Norton tools disabled in IE?

Does everyone with Win 7 x64 have this issue?

This is not the case here. I'm using WIN7 64 with IE9 and I am able to launch IE9 as soon as I'm connected to the web without any issues.

Maybe it's because I'm not using the toolbar? Not sure since I've never used it.

Same goes for chrome. Its the only browser I use.

Does the NAV/NIS icon appear before you launch IE9? If it does not, then you are unprotected till the NAV/NIS icon appears!

I continue with the same problem. Someone found some solution.? Thank you

Same problem here. Switched to a new Samsung SSD and reinstalled windows and decided to install NIS 2013 straight away. First boot or 2 was fine but after that(may have been after some windows updates) it started taking forever for the NIS icon to come up and thus any program that I tried to load would hang until NIS was up and available(even after the icon would appear, ti would be a red X for 5-10 seconds and then finally show the green checkmark).

It's sad because with the new SSD, I boot into windows in about 15 seconds, but then wait for a minute or more for NIS to finish loading. Completely unacceptable. Luckily I have my 2012 install disk handy and will be downgrading till this gets fixed..

Hi, can someone give me a link to download NIS 2012? I just uninstalled 2013 and can't find the previous version :smileyindifferent:

BTW, I also have the same problems with NIS 2013, that's why I want to downgrade.

Hi Criss,

NIS 2012:     http://www.norton.com/nis12

NAV 2012:    http://www.norton.com/nav12

Hope this help you.

Norton Internet Security 2013 Icon in a system tray

Norton Antivirus 2013 Icon in a system tray

Probably it is the same.

Japanese Norton   It came from the forum.

Management tool→Service

Start -> accessories -> A file name is specified and performed.

services.msc

Windows Font Cashe Service

Automatic (delay start) →Automatic Change

Please carry out a trial.

I solved.

I'd like to know whether or not Windows 7 64 bit users who are experiencing this slow loading Norton 2013 icon issue see a significant time delay between the following two events in the Norton Security History log:

Date & TimeActivityElapsed
01/10/2012 09:20:14Firewall has been enabled.
01/10/2012 09:20:33Firewall setting \AlertThreadEnable\" changed."00:00:19

(Results above are taken from a Windows 7 32 bit system that doesn't have the slow loading Norton 2013 icon issue).

To reproduce:

  1. Boot the Windows 7 64 bit computer and login to Windows.
  2. When the Norton icon appears in the Notification Area, right-click on it and select  'View Recent History'.
  3. Locate and click on the 'Firewall has been enabled' History log entry, right-click and select 'Copy'.
  4. Paste the text for this entry into your reply to this thread.
  5. Locate and click on the 'Firewall setting \AlertThreadEnable\" changed."' History log entry, right-click and select 'Copy'.
  6. Paste the text for this entry into your reply to this thread.
  7. Don't worry about formatting these entries in your reply; just leave the pasted text as it is.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.
