Am getting error message--waiting for internet connection----this occurred after updating to 2011. Any suggestions?
I am using NIS 2011 and Carbonite without issue. Carbonite was on the PC with NIS 2010 and I upgraded to NIS 2011.
I've turned off Microsoft's firewall. I cannot fond any other firewall. Thanks.
My Director had Carbonite and NAV 2010 on PC when she upgraded to NAV 2011. It was a day after the upgrade that Carbonite started with the error. I'm just looking for more ideas on what to do. Her mail, Firefox, and other things are working just fine. I'm puzzled.
HI BNSF54sp
Welcome to the Norton Community. What OS and SP do you have and is it 32 or 64 bit? Have you run live update after installing NIS 2011 and did you reboot afterwards? It looks like you previously had NIS 2010, how did you do the upgrade to 2011?
Please check to see if there are any program rules for anything related to Carbonite in the firewall. From NIS main window click on Settings > Network Settings and then under Smart Firewall click on Program Control > Configure. Search through the list and see if you spot anything related to Carbonite. If you find anything, what is it set to? If set to Auto or OFF, please change it to Allow.
If the above solves your problem you do not need to continue with the steps below.
You can temporarily turn OFF the firewall from the main NIS window, click on the little button to the right of Smart Firewall. It will ask for a duration in which to leave it disabled. Set the desired duration and then OK. Check to see if Carbonite connects to the internet properly.
If Carbonite works with Smart Firewall disabled and you do not see any existing firewall rules for Carbonite, please see the following post for Carbonite executables you can add to the program rules in the Smart Firewall. To add a rule to program control simply click on the Configure button as before and then click Add. You can then browse to the pat where the Carbonite executable is and set to Allow.
Hope this helps and please let us know how it goes.
Best wishes.
Allen

If the problem still exists with no firewall, then something else is causing the issue. Check the Carbonite lock icon to make sure it is not red, indicating the subscription has expired. Carbonite also suggests checking the Hosts file to make sure the program is not blocked there. Rebooting is also suggested as a first step.

But the OP also indicates having NIS 2011 so that is the "other" firewall. Unless it really is NAV 2011.

That was someone else that mentioned NIS.
Try turning off "Intrusion Prevention"

Ok, I think I need glasses or something. My eyes were sure playing tricks on me. I mean I know the names are similar but sure should have spotted that!

Actually it threw me for a loop too, I only noticed because they are different colors.
