Norton Antivirus Subscription Expired Due To Change In Net BIOS System Date

Hi,

There was a wireless problem in my laptop. I called a network engineer to get it rectified. While trying to fix that he noticed that the Net BIOS system date was set to several years back. So he changed it to the current date. Since then my Norton Antivrus which was working fine so far and for which I have a subscription till I think middle of February 2012 is showing subscription expired.

Is there anything I can do to get my subscription back to working normally? Please let me know if any more information is needed. Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks and Regards

Welcome,

Before you do anything to correct the probems be sure you back up your identity safe data. Then,

Make sure your clock is correct then do a control panel uninstall, reboot and reinstall of the program. That should get everything reset correctly.

Hi jdeepak14,

Before doing a reinstallation, first open the main Norton Window and click Support >Subscription Status.  Running the Subscription Status Check should fix this.

Hello jdeepak14

It wouldn't hurt to check out your CMOS battery also as that is often the cause of a problem with time and the bios having the wrong time set..

All, thanks a lot for your help.

I will first try out the suggestion of running subscription check again.

Other options seem a little risky.

I will post as soon as possible what the result was.

The running of the subscription status check worked like a charm. SendOfJive, thanks a million.

Hi jdeepak14,

You're welcome.  Norton depends on correct, uninterrupted system time to keep track of your subscription.  Whenever your local program cannot determine your current subscription status, it will become inactive.  Retrieving the correct information stored on the Symantec servers is always the first thing to try if your product wrongly says it is expired.  Glad it was an easy fix.

Yes that makes very good sense. Thanks once again for the information and your invaluable help.
