I have been searching both Norton's own website and the net for possible solutions without success. My Norton AntiVirus have, whithout any reason I can think of, turned black / transparent. The buttons are still there and possible to use, as long as you know where they are, however it is quite annoying.
As you see in the link, it is a screenshot of my Norton AntiVirus userinterface. What you see here is that I have pushed the 'Scan Now' button, so you can see that the list that appears is transparent, and that the majority of the interface's graphics have turned black.
Please do respond to this, and feel free to ask questions - I will try to answer them.
I've flaggged your message for help from Norton Staff so I hope someone comes in.
I don't use VISTA but it and Windows 7 do have a setting that is something to do with transparency (part of Aero?) and I wonder if that is doing something to your display of the Norton screens.
This is what I see in XP Pro when I click on Scan Now which I think is what you did and show?
I'll go and have a look in WIN & to see if it comes up any different but from memory it looks like that there also.
I'm in WIN 7 32 bit now and the screen looks just the same so I doubt it is anything to do directly with VISTA but it might be a setting?

Yeah, I believe so too - that it has to do something with an option. I have used an interface "modifyer / transformer / edit" tool once, to change the style of the window borders etc., though that is a long time ago and removed from the PC.
By rebooting you mean turning off the PC, right? If so, I have tried that without success I'm affraid.

rebooting may be different if you put the computer to sleep when turning it off and turning it back on. instead of turning it off try the option to reboot the computer. it may be labeled "restart". this way it shuts everything down and then reloads it all.

It may have left some traces or it may be in that Aero effect I refered to. I'm not sure where it's settings are in VISTA but you could Right Mouse Click on a blank part of the desktop and look for Appearance or similar; or go into Control Panel and look there, possibly Display ....
As whiplash suggested, did you reboot your computer? With Vista it can be confusing. Bring up the Windows Start menu and on the lower right you should see a power button - next to that a lock button - next to that a button with a small arrow. Click the small arrow and pick Restart from the menu.
After I rebooted the PC, it did update twice. The updates were bigger than normal "fixes", though on Help and Support > About it says I still got version 17.1.0.19. Tried the Run LiveUpdate option and it states I got the latest updates.
On the video card driver: Yeah, could try to look for updates.
Julie -- I know you said you are on VISTA Home Premium but have you installed any/all the Service Packs? If you need to check this -- Hold down WINKEY and PAUSE (usually up top right of the keyboard) and it brings up System Information with details of your Windows -- that should show Service Pack 1 or 2 . BTW YOurs is 32 bit WIndows not 64 bit? Almost certainly is 32 bit but please check on the same screen and see if it says 64 bit.
Sorry if you posted this already.
If you aren't uptodate on the Servivce Packs and on your Video card driver it would be worth doing that.
On the updating to version 17.5.0.127 you seem to be in a similar position to my XP Pro recently which downloaded the two substantial updates (63 and 16 MB I think) but would not change version ID -- if you click on the Show details after LiveUpdate finishes -- not those exact words I think but the meaning is that and it's a blue link that comes up a while after the screen says Completed!
If you look in there I bet you will find one entry about an Engine upgrade cannot be completed.
What I did was, as soon as it became available on line the other day, to download the complete NIS 17.5.0.127 file and install lthat on top of the existing 17.1.0.19 installation. The new one will say it's found an earlier version and is going to remove it and will then work, reboot and finish the installation and Bingo I had 17.5.0.127 AND the Outlook Express OffLine bug was fixed.
New NIS 2010: Click on this link NIS 2010 This will download a single 90+MB file which you should save on your hard drive where you can use it again if necessary -- Do not select Run but use Save when asked and remember where you put it!
That link is for the USA/CAN version -- if you are located elsewhere then adapt it to your local Norton Website, usually by adding the 2 letter country code somewhere in the URL.
I recently ran into more problems with Norton. It couldn't fix itself after a resart with a few complications. So I ran the Norton Removal Tool to get it completely off the PC, and then simplt reinstalled it and ran the updats. Now it is working! Don't ask me why I didn't do this earlier, I have no idea - I suppose I expected I'd run into problems then too, as I have done previously (with older Norton).
I trulely appreciate your help! Hope some of the info here might help others too.
