I recently had problems and Norton did a remote assist and cleaned my computer. Now when I run Norton Auto Fix I am getting this message: Attenton we have failed to fix 1 item. Internet connectivity - Host File Cleanup - Failed. Does this mean anything ro what should I do. Until the remote assist I didn't have the message on auto fix to appear. Please help.
Hi Nonnie,
Do you run any security programs that lock the Hosts file? Spybot Search and Destroy does this, and might prevent Norton from changing anything. Spybot S&D also populates the Hosts file with entries if you immunize, so you probably would not want Norton reverting the Hosts file back to its default anyway.
This problem may also happen if the host file got corrupted. I would suggest you to try to reset the host file to default settings with the following Microsoft document:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972034
Then restart the computer and run a scan with Norton Power Eraser to make sure that your computer is clean from threats:
You can check the Norton Autofix after that.
Thanks,
