Steady on there -- you youngsters are all the same. No respect! <g>

1925 was a very good year .....

Hello all.....GRRRRRRR!!!!!!! A bit of history. I loaded NAV 2009 on Oct 5th,2008. Previously had a valid NAV 2008 which didn't have an ounce of problems. NAV 2009 loaded perfectly and worked well for about a day.

THEN..... I kept getting the blue screen of death and had to do a press the on off button to shut computer off. After having this happen a few times over then next couple of days, I decided that 2009 wasn't worth the hassle so I removed it using the add/remove programs. Did a complete removal. Then re-loaded the 2008 version that I had in my hard drive (NAV081550). Everything went well and I have no longer seen the BSOD.

Now, about 2-4 times a day, the computer will freeze up solid, sometimes when I have firefox 3 running, other times, when I am in the norton protection center and not running firefox 3, and at times, just sitting there running nothing.

I have loaded and unloaded 2008 time after time both using the add/remove program as well as the Norton uninstall tool (twice). It doesn't matter what I did, everything seemed to be fixed until the computer freezes. Today, it happened last at 12:19 pm pst. Oh, forgot to mention that the hard drive light goes on and stays on constantly and I have to do a hard stop and restart my computer. Then I am good for a couple of hours.

I cannot do any testing as once it locks up, my mouse doesn't move, and the computer does not respond.

Even though I have removed everything, there is some artifact from 2009 that stays on the computer just the same way as it seems to remember my key as well as all of my settings even though I have indicated to remove everything.

I also, did a system restore to Oct 3rd, 2008 with the same results.

I am running Windows XP with SP3,  NAV2008

Hopefully, you have enough information to provide some assistance as I am getting rather annoyed at this. Norton says a fix is coming however, what are we to do while we patiently? wait.

Thanks

Bill

What version of Firefox?

What error messages are you getting from the BSOD? They give clues as to the cause.

Hi huwyngr, Firefox is 3.0.3

With respect to the BSOD, I took photos of each occurence so here goes. I presume you are talking about the technical information?

Looks like the same stop information time and again

STOP:-x000000F4 (0x00000003,0x8A343590,0x8A343704,ox805C8BFC)

Thanks for the quick reply.

OOOOOPPPSSSSS!!!

here is the correct stuff. Sorry

STOP:0x000000F4 (0x00000003,0x8A343590,0x8A343704,0x805C8BFC)

Are you using any other security products at all? Did you use the Norton Removal tool?

Hi Dieselman743, as far as I know, all I have is the NAV 2008 and the windows firewall, etc. I used both the add/delete and the norton removal tool numerous times.

Thanks

Bill

From the little I know in this area, I'd guess a hard drive error either physical or configuration.

There are some good hardware experts around here so I hope they can come up with something.

Have you tried the usual diagnostics including chkdsk run from startup?

Hi huwyngr, the last time there was a problem with NAV 2009 and prior to my removing it, I did get a screen when I restarted which did a chkdsk and didn't find any errors, etc. Everything was fine.

I haven't had a BSOD for about 8 days now since I went back to NAV 2008.

In my opinion, NAV 2009 caused the BSOD and not NAV 2008. That problem is gone.

The only problem I have now is the screen freezing which I believe is a artifact of NAV 2009that was not removed when I did the norton removal.

Thanks

Bill
