Is there any way to challenge being blacklisted by Norton?
I have changed internet providers, and now use a website with no user software.
My website is http://rushkoff.com - now hosted on Squarespace.com
I am spending lots of money and time to convince Norton that my website is of no threat to its users.
Is there an appeals process? Can I pay Norton Corporation a blackmail fee? I realize you have the power over me, and that people cannot visit my website until you approve. You win!
What can I do to satisfy you?
rushkoff:
Have you actually checked your website to determine whether there is malicious script left on it by some unscrupulous person?
Look into this free scanner and see if there is a problem. If not we can point you to the way to request a reassessment of your site.

I'm not experienced in this but while waiting for someone who is I checked your wevsite using SafeWeb on my NIS
As you probably know it reports:
Threat Report
Total threats found: 1
Drive-By Downloads (what's this?)
Threats found: 1
Here is a complete list: (for more information about a specific threat, click on the Threat Name below)
Threat Name: HTTP Fake AV Redirect Request
Location: rushkoff.com/2003/06/18/sensationlism
and that threat is described here:
http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/attacksignatures/detail.jsp?asid=23514
There is a procedure for reporting ' false positives" but I'm not sure exactly what it is since the link in the article I linked to above is not very helpful and seems directed at Symantec Enterprise users.
So hang on for some advice.

Hi rushkoff,
As a site owner you can ask for a re-evaluation of your site, but you should be sure that it actually is malware free before doing so. See the following for site owner information:
http://safeweb.norton.com/help/site_owners
On that page you will find the following section concerning re-evaluations:
http://safeweb.norton.com/help/site_owners#rating_inaccurate
And there is an appeals process also discussed:
