I'm in need of help in determining why my internet sessions are slow and/or end with "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." It even displays that message when trying to open or send emails in Hotmail or have already accessed a website.
Our brand new Dell Insperion (with Vista) was delivered Saturday. We loaded Comcast software as they're our internet svc provider and we either loaded Norton or it came loaded by Dell (not sure, but know we followed instructions that came up on the screen and did have to go online for something. The disk we have but didn't use says NIS 2008.) I don't know how to tell which version of Norton is loaded. We're using the pre-loaded IE 7. Windows firewall and Windows Defender have never been turned on and I verified they're off. Internet Security for Internet to medium-high and Trusted Sites to Medium, but there aren't any trusted sites (nor restricted sites) listed. Laptop is connected directly to the cable modem.
I had Comcast here on Monday to check the line because internet speed was slow and we kept receiving the message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." The tech tried running a speedtest on my new Insperion but it kept timing out. It didn't have a smooth load but stopped and started before just sitting there incomplete. He had the same problem testing with my modem and his. We then ran the speedtest with his laptop and my old Latitude and it ran just fine as did both when loading various websites in a matter of seconds. Comcast's conclusion is that it's not their line nor the modem.
I checked the Symantec Resource Protector Alerts and see most with Event Details below:
Actor: C:\Windows\Explorer.exe (PID=3472)
Target: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCSVCHST.EXE
Action: Unauthorized Access
Reaction: Unauthorized access stopped
other Events have Targets from Symantec Shared... CCLGVIEW.EXE and NPC\2.0\HSLoader.exe.
No other events are listed.
Would appreciate your assistance! TIA
