Detailed description: After years of peaceful coexistence Norton 360 and Thunderbird had declared war on each other
Two weeks ago, from night to morning I began to receive the following message ‘Could not connect to IMAP server … connection was refused’
Obviously I was receiving no mail.
After checking the internet I learnt that probably Norton was blocking Thunderbird. So under setting I checked Advanced Security/Computer/Antivirus/Email Protection, and disabled the Email Protection. That fixed instantly the problem and I received all the mail that I should have received before.
But very soon I noticed that the receiving mails problem was solved but I couldn’t send messages. The message I received said ‘An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Must issue a STARTTLS command first
Further readings in the Internet hinted that it was also due to some Norton blocking, but I wasn’t able to pinpoint the cause.
Could you please suggest me what other part of Norton could I disable to try in order to know if that is what is causing the problem’.
I understand that I will lose some important functionality and later I will try to find a less drastic solution, but honestly I can live losing mail protection for a while because I am very cautious and I NEVER had any problems with the mails I received. But I cannot live without Thunderbird being the key to manage my 10 account mails.
