Norton Blocking uBlock Origin Malware List

Incredibly frustrating issue where Norton is popping up an alert informing me it has blocked a text file from loading. This file is related to uBlock Origin’s Online Malicious URL Blocklist.

uBlock fails to load the list because Norton is blocking it, leaving me potentially vulnerable.

Ironic really (insert Palpatine meme here) that a program designed to prevent malware is blocking malware protection. This program is such a piece of junk.

Norton version: 26.5.10994 (build 26.5.10994.984)
uBlock version: 1.71.0

What browser? Do you have a screenshot to share? Just a bit ago, I am seeing something similar with Safe Web nailing a URL from Github ( text file no less ) and, purporting Opera.exe is infected. Happens every time I open my browser and/or open a new tab. VERY annoying. I have reported it as a false positive after having ran scans with RKill, Malwarebytes and MetaDefender services.

The weirdest issue is Safe Web shows this URL being blocked as clean:

MetaDefender shows clean as well:

My screenshot is the same as yours only I use Firefox. I have also reported it as a false positive. This is super annoying. Absolutely zero issues with Norton and uBlock Origin prior to this.

Amen to that, allow me to push this to an Admin who is also a Norton employee to see if we can get some action regarding a fix. I have cleared ALL cookies and caches on both Edge and Opera GX, cleared system temp files repeatedly as well and rebooted several times. Thanks for posting back.

@@Selvakumar.S This is a super annoying plain as the nose on our faces, false detection, purely AI in the cloud. Please ask someone your side to have a look. I have done the homework already so its not an infection to the OS. The is labeling the executable for my browser as something its not. Thanks in advance.

Sounds good.

Here’s hoping for a swift resolution!

Um, is this the address you’re calling?

Its been a few days since I escalated the issue I was seeing. The issue has disappeared on its own accord leaving me with a head scratch as the end result. lol. Nevertheless things are back to normal again. Thought I would share with the thread.

Just checking in to advise all good with me too.

Whether the issue was a bug that fixed on its own or was resolved, thankfully it didn’t seem to affect users for very long.
