Because of a non-fixable behavorial protection error that often requires and Remover & Reinstall (not the issue for this item), I lose the process exclusions and have to go through the time consuming process of resetting them (some other setting I don't lose). Is it by design that you have to redo all the process exclusions with every R&R (which I have to do approximately weekly) or am I doing something wrong that causes them to be lost on an R&R.
Thank you bjm for explanation. Very helpful. I do a weekly (about) R&R because Norton tells me to do so as the behavioral projection fails about on a weekly basis and I have to reinstall (sometimes after a day or two and sometimes I get a whole two weeks). The normal behavorial projection fix does not work and Norton tells me to do and R&R using their program. It is getting old to have to constantly due this and Norton gives no hint as to the cause. I will try a standard uninstall the next time (but that is not what Norton recommends)
Question from me is WHY, are you doing a weekly R&R?
SA
There are 2 ways the product may be uninstalled, you can either use the very standard Add/Remove Software from the Windows Control Panel where all software on your system has uninstall options. In this option 1, you will be given the option to save your settings when you uninstall, and therefore during a reinstall, all the settings will return.
As the section option, using the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool -> https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v60392881, which is primarily used to start with a full clean install and not restore settings. This will not give save the options as its intended purpose is to start clean.

If using the Remove and Reinstall tool with the Advanced > Remove only option, most if not all settings are lost. If you do not use Advanced > Remove only, most but not all settings will be retained. No idea why Norton chose to keep most but remove others. Items that I have heard that get removed are Backup sets, custom firewall settings, and now process exclusions. Those items need to be re entered after the reinstall.
There is no option to save settings for a future install.
that sounds like a huge headache. Having to redo all your process exclusions every time you do a Remove & Reinstall (R&R) is such a time sink. Honestly, I’m not sure if it's by design or just a flaw in their system, but it definitely shouldn't be happening every week. You might want to double-check if there's a way to export your settings before you do the R&R. Some security programs let you save your configurations to a file, which you can then import after reinstalling. If Norton has that option, it could save you a lot of hassle. Also, have you tried reaching out to Norton support specifically about this issue?
Hmm...have you tried "keep my settings".

I've not tested "keep my settings" for awhile.
Let us know your progress. If/When you opt "keep my settings".
Thanks
Note: "keep my setting" may not be as effective (for your Behavior Protection issue) as Uninstall Norton and remove all my data &or Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool => Remove Only
I'll need to go back and review your Behavior Protection issue thread.
