Norton doesn't recognize my internet connection anymore and restricts traffic

Hi!

I have a massive problem with the Smart Firewall right now. It doesn’t recognize my internet connection anymore thus it’s restricting my traffic which I can’t understand.

It’s telling me I am connected to “Network Authentification” although I never have changed anything in my connections; I didn’t move my PC nor did I change my provider. No matter what I do - I updated all drivers, reset my firewall rules, tried to use ethernet/Wifi from the same router - it never switches back to my connection - it only stays as “Network Authentification”.

What can I do to solve this problem? Slowly getting mad here.

Thank you.

Hello. Are you getting a notification window asking for your network username and password? Give the suggestion in this article a go. You may also want to check or reset your router as a test.

Not at all.

I am connected to the internet, I can access websites without any delay, only the download / upload seems to be restricted.

Weird thing is, Norton has actually recognized my connection before and switched back to the authentification while I haven’t moved my PC so I kinda feel trolled?

Router has been reset twice in the past two hours to fully make sure it’s not an issue related to it.

Is it only one download site that is affected, or are you blocked from other download sites?

If you are using a VPN, the download site you are using may be blocking your access from a known VPN IP address. If you are using VPN, try disabling it and testing the download again.

I wasn’t using VPN at that time, and it happened on at least three sites.

As of now, the problem seems to be resolved by directly updating the ethernet/wifi module driver from Realtek. It didn’t update itself properly and caused the network not to be recognized properly.

Sounds like good news. Thanks for posting back.

You say you directly updated the Realtek driver. Had it been updated automatically somehow? Norton Driver Updater maybe? If so, this is another instance of the NDU messing up and causing operational issues.

It wasn’t updated by the Norton Driver Update, at least as far as I know. Not sure if it was done in the background tho.

It’s more like, Realtek had pushed out an update hours prior my issues started and manually updating it via their website helped against the issues.
