Norton Email Scam

I recently fell for an Norton billing email scam and I need to know what to do. The scammer sent me some software to install and I double-clicked, but it didn't install. I grew suspicious and hang up. Since the installation failed, I'm hoping I'm safe, but I wanted to check with the group and see what the best thing to do is. I ran a full updated Norton scan of the hard drive and it found no issues. Does this mean I'm safe?

Hi All, I'm not sure if further action needs to be taken since the file has been quarantined.

Thanks much, Peter. I ran the Malwarebytes and it detected one possible PUP which I quarantined. It turned out to be WinZip Disk Tools, wzdt9.exe. Do you think this is something that I need to be concerned about? Once again, I really appreciate the help!

Hopefully you are safe. But the 'software' that you say did not install may have actually been malware that was gathering information from your computer.

You ran a full scan with your Norton. I would suggest a second opinion scan using the FREE version of Malwarebytes. You can find it here https://www.malwarebytes.com/premium/

If both scans come up clean, your system should be OK.

Just be sure you keep checking with your bank and credit card companies to ensure you are not seeing any unknown charges.
