Our son's Dell Windows 10 Home laptop - if connected to the internet and an internet browser open - reports via Norton Family every few minutes that there was a request from the laptop to open http://wpad/wpad.dat.
Is this a virus or a wrong configuration? How can this be solved. A virus scan has not led to any detected viruses.
starting from yesterday in the afternoon, my daughter's pc is triyng to connect to http://wpad, even if nobody is using it, but Norton Family locks this connection.
This connection starts about every 20 minuts for 4-5 times.
I performed a full system scan using Norton 360, but nothing has been detected.
So I tryed to check connecting to the same destination using my notebook, not protected by Norton Family but only by Norton 360, but my Fritz!Box modem-router locked the connection due to security reasons related to DNS rebind protection.
So, if at the beginning I was thinking about a “false positive” detected by Norton Family, the security lock of the modem router let me thinking about a threat not fully recognized by my security suite, so I am a little bit concerned.
Do you have any good suggestion for detect and remove malicious process that is starting the unwanted connection?
