Hi,
Please note that the Copy Drive option is useful when upgrading to a larger hard disk drive, which is used to duplicate the complete drive to other drive.
After you install a new hard drive, you can copy your old hard drive to the new one.
The Copy MBR option is selected if you want to Copy a drive which has operating system. And you can select this option as you are moving the Operating System partition to your new hard drive. But please note that it's always recommended to perform copy drive or restore an image on an identical drive. As it may cause problem due to change in the disk signatures and drivers for your new drive.
Thanks,
Prasad

hi, thanks for the reply.
yes that is what i have done, but the windows xp just wont boot on the new drive. I already had the drivers of the new drive installed, so that's not the problem i think. Have i missed something?
Does ghost12 copy all the temporary data that is held in virtual memory too??
Greetings,
Please note that already installed new drivers would not make any difference, as the source drive which you are using has different drivers than of the destination and when you perform a copy drive operation, the new drive trys to acces the old hard drives drivers during boot process and that may cause a conflict. As already informed in the previous post, ideally it's always recommended to perform copy drive or restore an image to an identical device.
You can refer the below link which would help you to copy drive in detail:

However, as an alternative you could try performing a backup and restore operation rather than copy drive operation and check for the issue. For your convenience you can refer to the below links:

hello here… i’ve just bought a new sata hdd and would like to move my OS from my IDE hdd to the SATA hdd… i already have Norton Ghost 12 installed, so that’s what i’ll use…
I made 3 partitions using NTFS on my sata drive: 1 primary partition (local disk E:) to which i want to move my OS to and 2 other logical drive on the extended partition)
But just before doing the ghosting to the sata drive i thought about that: my OS is found in a logical drive on an extended partition (local disk D:) meaning that those system files that are necessary to boot like the NTDETECT.COM, NTLDR, boot.ini, msdos.sys, io.sys, config.sys, autoexec.bat are found in the local disk C: which is the primary partition. So will i have to copy these system files manually?
And when doing the copy disk in norton ghost, should i tick the copy MBR too??
While reading the “copy MBR option” in the norton ghost help file i did not understand that part i highlighted: This option copies the master boot record from the source drive to the destination drive. Select this option if you are copying the C:\ drive to a new, empty hard drive. You should not select this option if you want to copy a drive to another space on the same hard drive as a backup. You should also not select this option if you want to copy the drive to a hard drive that has existing partitions that you do not want to replace. What does that mean? will it it erase the exsting partitions on my sata drive??
please help me
hello there.. i figured out for most of the problem.. but that "copy MBR" option in Norton Ghost is still not clear. In Help file this part was not that clear : You should also not select this option if you want to copy the drive to a hard drive that has existing partitions that you do not want to replace
am ghosting from a 40gb partition called local disk D: to a 80gb partition in a new drive called local disk E:
what will the copy MBR option do?
