Norton Ghost 14.0 & SCSI Drives

I would like to know if Norton Ghost 14.0 is fully compatible with SCSI devices, i.e., SCSI host bus adapters (HBAs), SCSI drives, hardware-based RAID enclosures, etc.  I would like to back up an internal SATA (non-RAID) drive to an external hardware RAID enclosure, connected via an Adaptec 29320LPE SCSI HBA.  Is this possible?  Will the Norton Ghost 14.0 SRD CD be able to see the SCSI-attached devices, if I have to boot the computer using this CD, in the event I need to restore the machine?

Thank you.

Hello, pore_vinod:

Thank you for your quick and informative reply; it is extremely helpful.  I have one remaining question:  if I need to add the SCSI HBA driver, which operating system version of the driver should I load, the same as the system's operating system of which I want to backup, Windows XP, or the DOS-based driver, or some other version of the driver?  I want to be certain before I may actually need the SRD; thank you.

Sincerely,

Hi Voltron,

Symantec Recovery Environment uses 32-bit WinPE environment for Windows Vista. You need the 32-bit version of the driver to include in the SRD. If you are running a 32-bit OS (WinXP or Win Vista), you can use the Custom Recovery Disk wizard option in Norton Ghost to create the Custom SRD. It will automatically search and find the missing drivers from the System32 folder of Windows.

For more information on creating Custom SRD, read the following support article:
