Norton Ghost 14 - Cannot open the file backup created

Hello all,

I took the file backup of my D:\ drive with Norton Ghost 14 3 days ago. Yesterday my system crashed and D:\ drive also lost in a way. When I wanted to recover my files from the USB drive that I took the backup on, Norton Ghost does not recognize any files there in the disc drive.

My system is Vista. How can I let Norton Ghost see those files backed up?

I need urgent help since I have lost all my data. Please, please, please..

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Hello All,

I thought that it would be good idea to explain my journey on recovering my files. That may help to people with similar problems, or to some people from Norton team in order to make the recovery function more efficient.

I have never tried to recover files from a Norton backup before, and this time when I read its help it is impossible to find a proper procedure for file recovery. I found the way of restore by reading the other threads in this forum.

1.  Click on Recover My Files on the main screen.

2. Go to File, click on Import Backup Destination.
This step never exist in the Help. Besides that, what is the reason of putting a step that initiates the recovery procedure under a menu item? Why is it not existing with a button on the screen? What is the meaning of "Import Backup Destination"? I do  not want to import anything, I just want to see the list of my files to be recovered!! I am not interested in your technical terms or internal sequence of your process as a business  user. A better term for this function might be "Browse Recovery Location" on a button at the very top of the screen.

And, more surprizing even after importing do not expect to see any files in nowhere. You have to try more!!

3. Goto "File and Folder" on the LEFT side.

4. Click on Search button on the RIGHT to see the files imported.
Now you can see the files. You should be happy like me..:)

5. Select the files to recover and then click on the Recover Files button ABOVE.

I really amazed on what a simple and straightforward procedure can be made so much complicated. I really do not see any reasoning behind to some hidden places to initiate a procedure, and go LEFT, RIGHT, UP and DOWN to recover the files. It should be streamlined and much much simple. That does not have much difference from WINZIP at the functionality. Only difference is that there is a version check here. But what a complicated procedure!!!

Moreover, the help file is not complete and missing very critical steps.

I strongly recommend to the Norton team to review that procedure of Recovering files, and make it more streamlined.

Thanks.
